The Book of Extraordinary Things is a guided journal based on the science of positive psychology. It encourages self-awareness, positivity, and well-being.
The contents are extraordinary because you are extraordinary—a rare being capable of evocation and transformation. This book is alive because you are alive. Each high and low, victory and defeat, and all of the spaces in-between are opportunities for you to decide how your story will be written.
The Book of Extraordinary things was designed to evoke a sense of wonder about your daily life and to serve as a supportive companion for your thoughts. The Book also acknowledges that negative emotions and difficult obstacles are part of your human journey. The intention of this book is to help cultivate the positive interventions that broaden awareness and build on the ability to think more creatively and flexibly in challenging situations.
Magic lies within.
Positive Psychology is the scientific study of human flourishing. It encourages a focus on strengths instead of weaknesses and provides us with the tools we need to move from surviving to thriving.
Current positive psychology teachings are based on the foundation of PERMA-V-
- Positivity- using intentional activities to boost positive emotions and to bring attention to what is going right
- Engagement- identifying and developing strengths to become more engaged at work and in life
- Relationships- building positive and authentic connections with others
- Meaning- uncovering your purpose and connecting with something that is bigger than yourself
- Achievement- Personal development through goal setting and goal meeting
- Vitality- taking care of our mind and body
The daily/weekly journal prompts in The Book of Extraordinary Things were designed to bring awareness to each of these six areas of flourishing.
The Book is designed to give the owner both structure and flexibility in their journaling experience. It is divided into three sections- Preparation, Exploration, and Reflection.
The Preparation section supports you in getting ready for the journey ahead. There are self-reflective inquiries to give you a clear image of where you are and and space for short, mid, and long term goal setting to provide direction on where you'd like to go.
The Exploration section includes the daily/weekly journal prompts, a section for the top three quests of that day/week, and a flexible "Field Notes" space for list making, writing, drawing, or any other artistic expression. At the end of the Exploration section there are several full-page "Field Notes" spreads. The journal spreads are undated so you can begin at any time and use it daily or weekly.
The third and final section of the book provides you with space to reflect on what you learned, what went well, what your challenges were, and what you can do to set yourself up for success going forward.

Greetings! I am Alexis - Certified Wellness Coach and the creator of The Book of Extraordinary Things.
The concept for this journal was part of the final project I presented for the six month Certification in Applied Positive Psychology program I completed earlier this year. I have always loved the concept of journaling but felt overwhelmed with the idea of starting with a blank page. I really wanted something that had both structure and flexibility with an aesthetic that spoke to my love of the curious and fantastic. Through this project I am connecting with my purpose- empowering people to achieve their goals and discover the magic that lies within.
The Book of Extraordinary Things has been a year in the making and I am so proud and excited to be sharing it with the world.
This journal would not have been possible without support from my family, friends, and talented artists- A heartfelt thank you to Chris M., The Book beta-testers, our fearless CAPP instructor Katie C., Mel T., Stevie D., Andrew S., and the Living Well + Wild Community.
I have a vision for The Book of Extraordinary Things that expands beyond the journal. I want to bring you resources to enhance your experience on this journey, to include:
- Quest Cards for when you're feeling extra courageous and creative
- helpful sticker tools
- companion books
- candles and tea to heighten your senses and lift your spirits
I am so excited for you to join me on this adventure!
Risks and challenges
Production: We have established a great relationship with a US-based printer and are confident in their ability to produce and deliver a beautiful product.
Delivery: We are also being realistic with delivery times. The printer has informed us that it will take approximately nine weeks to complete printing. Add another week for delivery to make it ten weeks until we have the journals at Living Well + Wild HQ. As much as I would love to see The Book in your hands sooner, we are expecting to ship the first week of May 2019.
Volume: Our campaign was created to help us get a run of 500 journals printed. Our delivery times are based on this number. If we are massively successful and need more than 500 printed, there could be a small printing delay. We will be communicating every step of the way to keep you updated.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
