What is Cardstock Warriors?
Cardstock Warriors is a traditional tabletop miniatures wargame. The only difference is that instead of buying hundreds of dollars of models and spending months painting and assembling, the game is played with hand drawn cartoon styled paper models that come out of your printer. Where a single unit of troops for a plastic or metal model based wargame would take an hour or more to construct, and several hours to paint, an entire cardstock warriors army can be printed and assembled in a fraction of the time for much less cost.

In Cardstock Warriors, each unit (or base) of troops has a point value, as well as a set of statistics governing how fast, defensible, potent it is in combat, and how cool they are under pressure. Most units also feature powerful special rules, some usable every turn and some so potent they can only be used once or twice a game. In addition, each army has special cards representing powerful spells and magic items. Two or more players select models from their collection up to an agreed upon point value, as well their starting army card abilities and a point value of extras - and then hit the kitchen table for a knock down drag out battle. Games are played with Cardstock Warriors models, 6 sided dice, and a ruler or tape measure.

What Are We Kickstarting?
The game rules (which will be available for free on the website), and all four starter armies are complete. The only thing I don't have is a way to get them to you! The Cardstock Warriors Kickstarter is all about building a website distribution platform to get these models out and into your hands.
I'm a Web Developer by trade. Instead of building websites for other people, I'd like to build one for us. Money from the Kickstarter will be used to pay my partners (and my family) to turn away other Web Development contracts, and spend our time building out this site. We want to build an E-Shop site to sell the models, a forum for discussion about the game, and with enough money and some time - a league and campaign system.
The Cardstock Warriors website will be a place to get new models, appreciate other peoples builds, and get involved in the wargaming hobby in general.
Alright Enough of That - Show Me These Armies!
I hear you. Part of what makes Wargaming great is the look of two well painted armies on the table. I think you will see below that just because something is made out of paper, doesn't mean it doesn't look beautiful on the table. Lets looks at the starter armies below:
The Birdmen army is an extremely mobile force. Born without wings until they come of age, a typical Birdman is quick on his feet and easy to wound. Those that survive battle long enough to gain their wings do so through positioning, speed, and ranged support.
Pictured above are some Birdmen ground forces. Halberdiers, archer units, and flying assassin units are some of the tools at your disposal as a Birdmen general.
See above as the fearsome Hawk Cavalry ride their giant bird breatheren into battle against the Witch Kingdoms. Bird Shamans support by helping get their troops in just the right position to devastate their enemies.
The Witch Kingdoms are comprised of all things that go bump in the night. Centered around zones of 'Dark Magic' the Witch Kingdom troops typically receive buffs when near a Witch or other caster. With regenerating troops they can be tough to stop if you don't take out their leaders.
The witch is the central figure in the Witch Kingdoms army. Featuring her familiar, a cauldron, and some pumpkins as wound tokens - the witch is the engine that drives this army. Pictured behind is a horde of zombies. While slow and easy to kill - zombie ranks are easily bolstered during battle with their slain enemies.
Lead by a grim reaper, consuming his prisoner souls to fuel his power, this host is deadly and hard to banish. On occasion their slain enemies are shackled to the host strengthening their numbers.
A mainstay of the witch armies, skeletons are what is left when a zombie survives enough battles. Faster and hardier than their fresh compatriots, these are a must in any witch kingdom army.
Giant bats, tamed by the witches, are instrumental in rooting out and eliminating small threats to the witch army.
Finally we have the mighty skeleton kings, both mounted and on foot. The heaviest armored troops at the Witch's disposal, these make up the honor guard of the Witchs.
No ghoulish army would be complete without a classic Vampire. With base decoration present for wound counters, the vampire looks great on the field. Choosing a different vampire power every round, even alone he can turn the tide.
Always a staple fantasy race, the Dwarves in Cardstock warriors are a hearty group with plenty of infantry, staying power, and warmachines. Lets take a look:
Dwarf warriors form the backbone of the Dwarven armies.
Crossbow teams assist from afar with heavy hitting ranged weapons.
With experience comes the ability to ignore enemy numbers once per game.
What is worse than a dwarf? A dwarf in armor of course.
Of course if Armor isn't bad enough you could always throw in a mechanized suit. Sporting a once per game cannon shot arm and an explosive engine, this guy always makes an impact on a game.
Sometime you need to be behind the enemy. These little teams give you just such an opportunity.
Need to shred some enemy infantry? This model has your back.
No army is complete without a Dwarf Cannon.
Sometimes instead of cannonballs you need to throw giant spears. We have you covered here too.
Finally due to a backer suggestion - we've got a prototype model for a Dwarven Airship! This model isn't 100% complete yet, and the rules are still being worked on, but this is a great example of the kinds of expansions in store for Cardstock Warriors.
The Goblin Horde
The goblin horde relies on large numbers of goblins, supported by fast moving warg cavalry and chariots, as well as some crazy bombers and other primitive artillery. They also have some of their larger cousins, the trolls, making up the fighting center of their army.
One of my favorite models I've drawn, this chariot looks great on the tabletop while it crashes into it's enemies.
Covered in goblin steel, these little guys are harder to move than they look. Cheap and in numbers, they can drag down any foe.
Accompanied by their handlers, these trolls will follow them into any danger. Using whatever they can get their hands on for weapons (even goblins sometimes), these guys can really dish it out.
These little robin hoods have crude short bows, used to pepper the enemy. Extremely cheap, these guys are also really good at getting in the way of enemy fire lanes, and generally causing a headache for the enemy army.
Stealing dynamite from the dwarves, these crazy goblins like to run around the middle of a battle throwing dynamite into enemy troops. Lacking any other kind of weapon, as a last resort they can detonate themselves to finish off heavy targets.
More lightly armored than the warrior counterparts, these guys can pump our more steely tips per square inch than any other goblin unit.
Experts at the hit and run, these fighters zip into the enemy, do their damage, and zip out of danger just as fast. While not that great at killing entire units alone, they are best used to harry the flanks of the enemy and take out unprotected war machines.
Finally, the Catapult is used at range to soften up a goblin's enemy before the troops engage. Of course their aim isn't all that great so sometimes you have to break some eggs, y'know.

Finally - no campaign would be complete without stretch goals. I've got dreams for how cool this game could be, and I hope we can reach them together.
$5000 - This is our funding goal, and includes all the troops here up on a basic featured e-shop with a forum for discussion.
$6500 - Cards for each troop. Right now the game rules and unit rules are all included in document form, but I'd like to build design some cards that can be printed to help players track their units stats on the table.
$7500 - League system on the website. Here I'd really like to expand the Cardstock warriors website to include a league system to facilitate play groups both finding each other, as well as tracking their league stats.
$8000 - New units for each army. I've got some great ideas for new units for these armies. With this much capital I can pay for more of the development to lie on my partners and concentrate on building some new troops - like elephant riding goblins, more crazy dwarf contraptions, or foul ghouls and frankenstein monsters.
$10,000 - At this point the support will have overwhelmed me. I will produce a whole new army for launch, and I've got some really interesting forces planned (although I'd love to hear from the community). We need some elves, or perhaps an automaton clockwork army? The forces of Atlantis? Maybe even something way out there like an army of slimes with troops that combine to form other troops. When model cost isn't an issue, some really interesting game mechanics can present themselves.
$12,000 - If we make it this far I'd really like to create a campaign system as part of the website. This would be a metagame that allowed for territory control, scouting, random events, and resource management. Battles would be played on the tabletop, but the rest would be managed by our campaign system. As a developer, I would super excited to build this, but I would need to bring in some game developer experience and help.

Risks and challenges
Since most of the art assets are in place already, the main challenge with my project will depend on the quantity of backers who select the pre-cut reward offering. Depending on the volume I intend to purchase additional cutting machines and pay some friends to come out and help me produce the (hopefully) large amount of paper models.
The creation of the website will take some time, but is of little risk. I am a professional Web Developer with my own company that has built websites for international companies, and I work day to day as an Enterprise web developer for a multi-state corporation. I intend to use the funds to pay out the contract with the rest of my partners from my web development company to produce the website. This will allow me to secure the developers needed for the work, and also to stave off other contracts that might threaten to take my time away from this one.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
