It's spring break in Arthursburg, a time when kids set out on heroic quests of excitement and imagination. But this year, the danger and magic are real - the residents and wildlife around town have been transformed into evil monsters bent on total destruction!
Only you and your friends have the power and wits to rise up and save your loved ones from this unknown evil.
To defeat the monstrous hordes that are spreading chaos and evil everywhere they go.
To become the legendary heroes who will save the people of Arthursburg.
The Guardians: Explore is a strategic deck refinement game for up to six players. Monsters have taken over the city while you are on spring break! Working with your friends if you are able to fight through the waves of monsters and defeat the final boss, Arthursburg is saved! But who the mightiest champion? Then you compare hidden quest achievements and trophy piles to determine who is the True Guardian!
The game takes place over two game chapters. In the first chapter, the Warm Up, you choose thirteen guardian cards to supplement your seven generic cards. These will drive your strategy for the second game chapter. In the second chapter, the Battle, your party has three rounds of fighting monsters in the city, then you group up for a mini-boss. After that the second wave of monsters attack the city and you have three more rounds to fight them. Then the final boss attacks and hopefully the team is strong enough to come out of the Battle victorious!

All backers will get their name added to the rulebook, thanking them for making this game possible!
This Kickstarter campaign is raising money to fund the completion of the artwork for the project and ordering the first print run. The first print run will require $15000 which is where the majority of this funding is going to go to. Once the games are produced and shipped to all the Kickstarter backers I will be sending demo copies to various game stores across the US and working with distributors to get copies on shelves in stores near you!
Where the Game Development Stands
This game has been really enjoyable to play for everyone I have shown it to and they want to play it again! The Guardians: Explore provides an almost infinite amount of replay value. The artwork for most of the game is at a milestone two phase, which means it has a sketch or line art completed. Over the course of the next couple months, I will hire artists to finish the artwork, I just need kickstarter's help to finish financing that.
While designing the cards for this game I directed the artists to make the various “sets” of cards create a single composition if laid next to each other.
What's in the box?

How to Play Walkthrough
If you would like a walk through on how to play check out this video:
Below is a visual layout of how part of the game would unfold. After drafting your cards in the first game chapter, The Warm Up, everyone proceeds to the second game chapter, The Battle. In the battle players turns will resemble something like this:
In order for a game to become balanced and polished it needs to be played over and over again. I have run multiple playtests with frequent board game players in Madison, WI, St. Paul, MN, and in Austin, TX, including several who play Magic: The Gathering competitively.
Additionally, I sought industry feedback, playtesting with employees from Steve Jackson Games, Team Weasel Games, Cool Stuff Games Inc., along with over 20 different playtesters from BioWare, including game designers, producers, and quality assurance testers.
What is left to do for The Guardians: Explore?
- Finish the artwork, which just requires the funds from kickstarter.
- Order the first print run, which just requires the funds from kickstarter.
- Final touches on the game design and mechanics, this has been done! Although with any project with the intention of competition there will be ongoing tweeks until it hits the manufacturing floor!
- What about expansions? There are plans for expansions for up to 6 players. Also, to add more skills, items, familiars, super cards, monsters etc so that players can swap out some like you would in Dominion.
