Update #41: Spectre Operative Team now in production!

Posted by Anvil Industry (Creator)

Hello Backers!

Good news - The Unity Council Spectre Operative Team is completed and ready for mass production.

This is the first full unit of figures we have completed and I am really pleased with how they have turned out.

The Kit includes 4x lower bodies, 4x upper bodies and 6x different helmets. Two with "open" eye protection and four "closed", as lots of you asked to be able to make the team look totally anonymous and uniform.

Also included on the sprue is a full weapons set (Rifle, pistol, Mags and Grenades) for conversions, and lots of detailed "rubble bits" which are great for basing figures.

Another included component not shown in this image is a "front barrel" extension which can be used to turn one of the short guns into the long version!

I hope you all like these!

Still to come for the Spectres - Gabriela Aguilar (Master Sniper) and a bonus female Spectre Operative from the Stretch Goals.

Update #40: Isiah Cortez, Idaho Yoshida, Lena Petrova - New Resin Miniatures!

Posted by Anvil Industry (Creator)

Hello Backers,

We have some great new figures to show off in today's update!

Isiah Cortez, Idaho Yoshida and Lena Petrova are now in resin, and will be in full production by the end of the week!

Here is a very close up photo of Isiah's face, showing the very high level of detail we can achieve with the printer -

The print/resin cast process we are using now actually can capture more detail than its possible to see/paint in a 28mm scale figure, so I will need to be careful to ensure details are not too small, but this is a good problem to have!

As a extra bonus - I have been doing a lot of work on the Spectre Operatives, who will be next to be put in production, here is a preview photo of a figure assembled from 3D printed components -

Hopefully next week we will have photos of the complete squad in resin.

Thanks for your continued patience.

Update #39: Prepare for War(Drones)!

Posted by Anvil Industry (Creator)

Hello Backers,

We made add-ons available through the pledge manager. The run away most popular Add-On was the Republic Instigator (We need to make over 200!), but in second place...?

Crane Corporation Wardrones!

These are the finished models (Pose pack A, included with the basic pledges), and they are now in production! The wrecked Wardrone Leg on the base is part of the rubble sprue!

larger original photos click here (photobucket)

Compared to the prototypes, and previous "mechanical" figures we have done, the crispness of the detail is much better. The 3D print lines are more visible on flat surfaces than on organics or smooth plates, but they are invisible.

This set includes two bodies, two separate poseable heads, and four different poseable and interchangeable arms.

The "Pose pack B" will follow on soon and include two more body poses, plus a "Command Drone" arm and head option.

We will ship the miniatures show above to most backers, if you have gone for two or more sets of War Drones, we will send the best mix of both packs for maximum variety.

General update -

We have now closed the pledge manager to new payments, but you can still use your voucher if you have not completed it yet.

We have printed out and sorted all the pledges we have so far and are preparing for the huge task of manufacturing somewhere in the region of 20,000+ figures, we don't actually know the exact total needed yet.

We are making slow progress with the 3D printer, and have a few good masters of characters, next week I will be working on the Unity Guard infantry and support weapon platform, so I hope to get those in production soon as well.

Thanks for your patience!

Update #38: Resin Ellenor Renard from new Printer!

Posted by Anvil Industry (Creator)

Hello everyone,

Thanks very much if you have completed your pledge manager in the last few days, we have most pledges finalised now. Please complete it as soon as possible if you have not already.

The first Resin Cast

We have made a small but significant step in the project today, producing the first resin copies of a master part made in house on our own 3D printer.

The printer is still proving very temperamental and inconsistent, but the photos show the awesome level of quality its capable of, compared to the printers we have used for previous masters. So all this wasted time and effort is worth it for the end result, once we can get the printer to work reliably every time!

Ellenor Renard and her Stim-Puppy - The Puppy needs a name, what shall we can it? suggestions in comments please.

The print, and resin copy, has both fantastically smooth surfaces, and nice crisp edges on all the non-organic stuff, print lines are pretty much invisible. This figure is huge on a computer screen, but only 29mm tall in real life!

A problem with the printer we have used in the past is that one side would be very good quality (almost as good as the image above) but the otherside, where print support material had been in contact,t would always have a really rough surface, even after a lot of scrubbing with a toothbrush.

In this photo we have two resin Ellenors. On the left, the print from during the project funding period (after quite a lot of scrubbing to clean up the surface).

On the right, the print from our new machine, with virtually no clean up needed at all.

Click here for the full size version of the image.

So in summary, the project is behind schedule, but we are making slow progress, and the new models we are making (with your support) will be the best quality we have ever produced!

Update #37: Please complete your pledge manager if you have not already!

Posted by Anvil Industry (Creator)

Hello Everyone,

Firstly, It's been a while since I showed any new renders, so at the bottom of this update is the Unity Guard Infantry with Flame Thrower!  But first some important stuff -

Very Important - Please complete the pledge manager as soon as possible if you have not already done so- We would like to close our pledge manager soon so that we can prepare all the orders and work out how much of everything we need to manufacture.

Please carefully read the full instructions for completing your pledge manager, which can be found here -

If you have any questions or trouble with using your Kickstarter Coupon, please let us know by emailing with details of the issue, and we can assist you.

Project Delays, and where we are currently.

The project is behind schedule, and will not realistically ship by the end of February as I originally hoped.

There are various reasons for the delay, but the main one is that I was overly optimistic in my assumptions about how long everything would take.

I am really sorry we cant hit our original target, and thank you very much for your understanding and patience. We are all as keen to get the game produced and shipped as you are to receive it, and we are all working flat out to get there.

The vast majority of miniatures for the project are digitally sculpted, but they all need an amount of work to get them finished off, including posing, improvements to the original sculpts and preparation for 3D printing. We then need to produce moulds and start production.

At the moment we have not started production of anything. This is because it has been much more difficult to learn to use our 3D printer (and solve various problems) that I anticipated, and it also arrived with us later than expected.
The printer does produce parts of very high quality - better than all our previous masters - and I am confident that we will be able to get it working well in the near future.

As soon as each set of master parts is produced, it will have a master mould created, and then a production mould, this process takes a few days. Once we have a production mould, we can produce large numbers of kits very quickly. Packing and shipping is also something we can do quite fast once we get going.

This means that the "bottle neck" holding things up is the conversion of 3D files into high quality 3D printed masters.

Our Fulfilment plan -

I am going to produce all the master parts as quickly as possible, starting with the miniatures in "Shard Recon", then the "Shard Strike", Then the Add-On figures, in the order in which they were most popular.

This means that Adam and Christina can produce, pack and ship all the miniatures for "Shard Recon" as soon as they while I am still working on the remaining figures for Shard Strike .

Doing it this way means shipping will be spread out over a few months rather than all at once, and that each individual pledger gets their rewards as soon as possible after the masters for that pledge level are completed.

Timing -

If we can get the 3D printer up and running consistently soon (and I think we are almost there) I would hope that "Shard Recon" pledges will ship in Mid March, assuming we can get our tokens printed soon (another update due soon about those).

Shard Strike may then take another 2-4 weeks, and I would hope to have shipped everything by Mid-April, before the SALUTE trade show which is a big day for us.

Rules - I will be focusing entirely on the miniatures for as long as it takes to get all the masters produced and in production, after physical fulfilment is done I will continue rules development, and would hope to get them completed fully by the summer, thought a "living draft" will be available before then for those of you who want to play in the "beta" stage.

If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to leave a comment or email us.

And finally, here is that render!
