Patriots & Redcoats is a fast and fun card game of hidden identities and social deduction that plays in 20 minutes. In it, 4–10 players take on the roles of the Americans fighting to win independence and the British fighting to stop the rebellion. Watch out—there are spies and turncoats among you, and war by its nature can take on a character all its own.
Want to play a game where you can...
- Recruit and assassinate the other players?
- Be King George III or General Washington?
- Fight to amass battlefield victories for your cause?
The game was created by Tom Butler (The Pirate Republic) with some help from world-renowned painters, and the Green Feet Games team. We think this game is everything we're best at creating—a lovely little story that actually makes history compelling and fun!
So, we put together this Kickstarter campaign because we want to take pause and remember the people who shaped our world today—and, of course, bring your tabletop a whole lot'a fun.
But we can't do either without you.
We will pre-pack Patriots & Redcoats in a robust mailer box at the factory, and use quality fulfillment companies in each region to keep customs fees, VAT, and shipping costs as low as possible, so you can back more games!
Please note! If you're shipping to the US, Canada, Australia, or the EU, you won't pay customs!
Backers are limited to 5 games per pledge: (a mix of any versions of the these games is fine); only pay the shipping fee once per pledge, not once per game). To add more games beyond the first (or add-ons), manually enter the $ total when making your pledge or click the blue "Manage" button next to a previously made pledge.
Patriots & Redcoats started when Tom, the designer, was playtesting The Pirate Republic at a local game store, The Game Table Cafe in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. His daughter had brought along a friend to play something from the store's 200-plus games. On the ride home, Tom asked his daughter's friend which of all the games at the store he enjoyed most.
He said, "Your game, Tom, Patriots and Redcoats."
Creator not knowing his prototype left the house? Certainly unexpected.
Daughter ordaining her friends as the game's first alpha testers? Too funny.
Daughter playtesting with chicken-scratch card prototypes in a game store unbeknownst to the creator, and the playtesters saying it's their favorite game of all time? Priceless.
Later—this year—Tom was attending the U.S. Army War College, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Carlisle is home to so much of our nation's history, pregnant with Revolutionary War meaning. You cannot throw a rock without hitting some building or street brimming with a story, whether it's Washington's Whiskey Rebellion, the infamous Molly Pitcher, British Spy Major John André, or the Hessian Powder Magazine. So Tom decided to bring this little beauty of a game to the world, and the rest is history.
Patriots & Redcoats is a family-and-friends free-for-all about the Revolutionary War, not a Revolutionary War history lesson trying to be a party game. However, as you play, you will learn all about spy rings that, perhaps, really won the war or at a minimum orchestrated (pulled the strings behind) all the decisive victories that led to America's independence.
We wanted to put this project on Kickstarter because it's the fastest way to get the game in your hands and to hear your feedback. This could be the best card game you'll play—we think so.
But we need your help to give it wings and fly into your homes.
So whether backing a game or pledging your signature on a fragile paper declaring independence like America's forefathers, doing so takes commitment to a cause, and we hope to give you something to stand behind and support.
Your most obedient, humble servant of tabletop fun,
Tom and the Green Feet Games team
Risks and challenges
This is not our first taste of the battlefield. Nonetheless, unforeseen events can and do happen. We've taken all the necessary steps to eliminate our blind spots, and we've already produced a nearly final prototype of the game. All that remains is one more round of tweaking card effects and testing a 12-player variant.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
