We reached our initial goal in just 6.5 hours!

One fateful day while stuck in the abysmal soul-suck that is DC Metro traffic, passing numerous sports bars on the way to their friendly local game store, Melissa and Manny were suffering post-con depression and bemoaning the lack of geek friendly establishments that serve alcohol. Often it is said that nerds and geeks don’t go out or socialize. That assumption is dead wrong; just take a look at any Comic Con. The issue is, geeks don't have a wide variety of places to hang out. "Where is our sports bar for geeks?!" After sharing this revelation, we grew passionate about making a safe haven for geeks and gamers... a place to call our own.
Our concept for Dungeons & Drafts is an old world, English-style tavern where you can come play the game type of your choice be it board, card, miniature, war, or video. In the tradition of an English pub, we want to create an atmosphere that is family friendly and fosters social interaction.
Our goal is to have roughly 30 taps primarily carrying local beer, mead, and hard cider. For those of you that like an international, or non-local brew, we will have an extensive bottle menu. We are also working on a great geek and board game themed cocktail list.
Our head chef has come up with an amazing menu full of traditional pub and medieval style food. We are focusing on simple, good tasting fare with an emphasis on slow roasted and smoked meats, as well as house-made sauces and breads. We will also have extensive vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options.
All tier levels come with a Kickstarter-exclusive, behind the scenes look at the building of Dungeons & Drafts. As a supporter you will get first access to new information about Dungeons & Drafts and receive photo and video updates only provided to our Kickstarter backers.

The planned opening for Dungeons & Drafts is currently scheduled for early May 2015, barring any unforeseen circumstances. Dungeons & Drafts will be opening at 1624 S Lemay, Unit 6 at the Lemay and Prospect intersection. This location is one of the busiest intersections in Fort Collins, backs up to the Spring Creek bike trail, and has plenty of parking.
We have raised the initial money needed for a basic bar through a combination of the Roll-over for Business Start-up (ROBS) program, where Manny and Melissa rolled their combined 401ks into investments in Dungeons & Drafts, other personal funds, and an SBA loan. However, these are the funds needed just to get us operational. To help us realize our goal of making Dungeons & Drafts as awesome as you and we want, we need your help. Every dollar you contribute will be added to making Dungeons & Drafts that much better. We are initially looking for a starting goal of $9,600. $5,200 of our goal will go towards adding an outdoor seating area, because let’s face it, some days in Colorado are just too pretty to sit inside. The outdoor seating area will also let us be as pet friendly as we want to be, with regular yappy hour events for your four-legged friends. We will also be using $3,440 towards augmenting our custom bar build out to give it that true old-world tavern look. The remaining $960 will go towards Kickstarter fees.
As a data nerd, Melissa has done extensive research into the statistics of running a successful Kickstarter. The data shows that projects of $10,000 or less are more likely to get funded. So, to give us our best chance of successfully funding, we have broken down the total funds needed into stretch goals in order of priority. We have three total stretch goals to get us to the total $35,000 we need to successfully build Dungeons & Drafts. Our stretch goals will include larger game libraries, acoustic engineering to make your gaming experience more enjoyable, as well as various upgrades to make your dining and gaming experience the best we possibly can. We also have a surprise stretch goal if we get beyond $35,000.
Stretch Goal Details: At $15,000 we will able to afford to expand all of our game libraries. We still have an extensive list of games you all have requested and we want to fulfill those wishes. We will also add modern gaming consoles for our video game areas with a corresponding video game library. Lastly, we also want to show some love to our RPG and wargaming friends with a full set of rule books, miniatures and terrain (fantasy, post-apocalyptic and Sci-fi).
Stretch Goal Supporter Bonus: When we hit our first stretch goal all backers will now receive fate points in our loyalty program equal to the dollar amount of the Kickstarter tier level purchased. You can use fate points for a re-roll during our "D20 Nights", or save them up and get discounts, free items and special perks.
Stretch Goal Supporter Bonus: Also, all backers at the Dungeon Delver tier level and above will receive a one month subscription to Adventure a Week. Adventure a Week provides subscribers with a steady stream of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 and Pathfinder RPG compatible adventures in WEB and PDF formats as well as over 80 adventures in their back catalog. Check out www.adventureaweek.com for more information.
Stretch Goal Details: At $30,000 we will focus on making the ambiance of Dungeons & Drafts as epic and geeky as possible through a number of means. Firstly, we will upgrade our dining ware to feature stainless steel platters and wooden bowls so you can dine in true medieval fashion. We will also be able to add even more geeky décor so we can show support to all the various geek genres we know and love. Lastly, we will add communal fire pits to our outdoor seating area where we will supply everything you need for a s'mores party.
Stretch Goal Supporter Bonus: All backers at the Dungeon Delver tier level and above will now receive a Dungeons & Drafts' beer mug. This way if you can’t make it in to Dungeons & Drafts you can still have a drink in true adventurer style.
Stretch Goal Details: At $35,000 we will upgrade kitchen equipment to make our food as delicious as you all have asked.
Surprise Stretch goal Supporter Bonus: We are hosting an International Tabletop Day party at the Fort Collins Marriott on Horsetooth!
Stretch goal Supporter Bonus: All backers will have their name added to a plaque that we will mount in a place of honor inside the bar.
Stretch Goal Details: At $42,000 we will have a custom "Looking for Group" app made, so when you come into Dungeons & Drafts and need that fifth player for the perfect Battlestar Galactica game all you have to do is queue up our Looking For Group app.
Stretch goal Supporter Bonus: At $42,000 our International Tabletop Day party will be fully catered with food and drink included as well as a host of tabletop day prizes!

Risks and challenges
Our primary challenge is staying on track for our May 2015 opening. As many of you know, we have already had a number of delays due to permitting backlog. The City of Fort Collins will ultimately be our determining factor on the schedule for opening. We have already received city approval for our liquor license and are awaiting state approval. However, we foresee no issues on getting state approval in a timely manner now that we have city approval. We have an amazing contractor and architectural team that is walking us through every step of the process to get Dungeons & Drafts open as soon as possible.
Once we open, our challenge will be to sustain a high standard of quality service including serving times and events that appeal to the extensive geek community in Fort Collins. We have assembled a great team including a head chef with 15 years of experience in the business, a restaurant manager with extensive experience in ensuring a quality experience for customers while creating a safe and enjoyable work environment for employees, and two former intelligence analysts with comprehensive knowledge in marketing, advertisement and event coordination (and oddly enough, mixology). We will also be utilizing an advanced point-of-sale system to ensure proper restaurant management through real-time reports on inventory and revenue.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
