[Edit: Fully funded, and in just two weeks no less! Thanks to all for your support. Now let's reach for those stretch goals. Who doesn't want to read about a grown man crying at the altar?]
[Edit: Reward Update! Since everyone has been so very supportive, anyone backing above the MECHANIST tier (30$) will have their physical print book signed and personalized by the author.]
Chasing the Lantern tells the tale of two rival bands of sky pirates as they fight over the same airship, the only vessel able to reach a lost and cursed treasure. The story is seen through the eyes of ex-prostitute Lina Stone, whose happenstance encounter with the swashbuckling Captain Fengel and his crew of aerial brigands is a chance to escape her old life. By tagging along with Fengel she encounters demented wizards, magical storms, ancient inhuman ruins, and Fengel's greatest rival; a ruthless, vicious pirate with her own airship determined to stop Fengel at any cost. Worse than that, she's his wife.
Chasing the Lantern is a full length novel, a sky-pirate fantasy at 100,000 words. Even better, it's fully written. I only need your help to self-publish this work. All funds collected for this project will go towards professional editing and formatting for digital and physical publishing. I have put my own money into funding this project but unfortunately have reached the point where I am unable to continue on my own. That's where you come in.
I am working with Indigo Editing (http://www.indigoediting.com/) here in Portland, Oregon. Indigo has been excellent to work with, a professional editing group also responsible for running the local Sledgehammer writing contest as well as the Ink-Filled Page literary journal.
For physical printing, I am working with Third Place Press, a small publisher and bookseller based in nearby Seattle, Washington. (Check their site at:http://www.thirdplacebooks.com/)
The wonderful cover art (seen above without a title) was created by SnowSkadi. See his other excellent work at deviantart.com.
So I've written a novel and I've lined up professional publication. But is it anything you would want to read? Well, go find out. I've posted an excerpt on my blog at http://jonathonburgess.com
I support Kickstarter and the Kicking It Forward movement. 5% of all ebook sales will go towards future projects.
Stretch Goal #1 - 2500$
I only need 1500$ to finish this work in a professional manner. But why aim for the bare minimum? If I get over-funded I will include the short story "Til Death Do Us Part," the tale of Captain Fengel's horrible, horrible, wedding day. This story will be sent digitally to all backers in whatever format they desire.
Stretch Goal #2 - 4000$
Because pirates never settle for less than, well, everything, at 4000$ I will have all the funding necessary not only for the first novel, but the sequel as well. Tentatively titled On Discord Isle, this is currently a work in progress, half finished at (currently) 50,000 words. Should we reach this stretch goal I would be on track to finish a rough draft by October, or possibly even earlier. As well, every backer who funded 5.00$ or more would receive a digital copy of the sequel when completed. Anyone set to receive a physical copy of the first novel (25$ +) would receive a physical copy of the sequel by increasing their pledge an additional 20$.
