Fixing Florida's Sewage Crisis: For Truth Media (Canceled)
Help For Truth Media Launch a Three-Part Investigative Series on Florida's Wastewater Crisis and What Each of Us Can Do to Fix It
Help For Truth Media Launch an Investigation into Florida's Sewage Crisis and What Each of Us Can Do to Fix It:
Your Kickstarter support will help For Truth Media produce a three-part investigative report on how and why Florida's municipalities are discharging millions of gallons of raw sewage into our waterways on a daily basis. These waterways are supposed to be safe for global tourists, local children and indigenous marine life. According to the Environmental Protection Agency some cities have not complied with water quality standards for over 7,000 days--roughly two decades. Join Chris Grisby as he interviews environmental leaders to understand what's really behind Florida's poop problem and what we can do to make things better.
About the For Truth Media Group:
For years, Florida's corporate and political leaders have worked to ban references to "climate change" and they have not always prioritized what is best for our environment. As a result, Florida is in the midst of a water quality crisis that can no longer be ignored. Toxic algal blooms, wildlife mortality and phosphate mining have garnered headlines but the standard, ad-driven media cycle often leaves us with more questions than answers. Many citizens feel they either have not gotten the full story or that they are unsure about which sources are truly reliable.
The For Truth Media Group was started to fill the void left by mainstream media. We aim to dish out the hard realities to make a positive impact on our communities, our earth and our local economy.
For Truth Media's Objectives:
- Producing well-researched and reliable investigative reports not found on today's broadcast media,
- Building a news organization driven not by top-down, corporate sponsors but by bottom-up community interests so that stories truly reflect community needs,
- Providing greater transparency about our resources to earn public trust,
- Spotlighting and supporting local organizations and people working to make a difference in our communities,
- Prioritizing science and making studies easier for the public to understand in order to help answer our audience's questions,
- Bringing people together to create positive environmental and social change,
- Creating technologies that will allow other community journalists to do the same.
B The Change: what makes For Truth Media a Unique Company
To achieve these goals, For Truth Media Group has become one of the first media companies in the nation to incorporate as a B-Corporation. Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. We believe meeting these standards will help us not only "talk the talk" but truly "walk the walk".
About Our Founders:
The founders of For Truth Media Group are Southwest Florida residents who met during the 2018 water crisis. We gathered at community events, networked on-line and talked at length about the public's need to access more accurate information about water quality. It was particularly important to us to help journalist Chris Grisby to continue to share honest and solution-oriented reports with the public after he parted ways with WINK News.
We are a diverse team united by a common interest--a love for Florida's environment and a need to ensure that our children can enjoy healthy beaches, parks and waterways the way we have.
Please join us. Contribute, follow our work, laugh, cry and--in the end--make a difference.
About Chris Grisby:
If one thing has emerged from Florida's 2018 water crisis, it is that the public is frustrated with the way conventional media serves them.
While studying journalism in college, my professors taught me how to be objective, hold the powerful accountable and to dig for the truth. Sometimes though, journalists like myself can dig “too deep” and ruffle the wrong feathers.
My journey at WINK News came to an abrupt halt during this pursuit of truth. I was eagerly reporting on the impact our environmental crisis had on the health and livelihood of people in our community, before I was told and then forced, to stop.
Instead of allowing me to fold up shop and move on, a community of people came together to support my continued reporting--independently--and the For Truth Media Group began. Our team believes enough is enough: it's clear reporting needs to change. Climate change and resulting environmental challenges aren’t going away anytime soon, so, we’re launching a visual media platform dedicated to journalism that covers the environment and its impact on our everyday lives.
Journalists like myself deserve to be able to work and dig into stories without constraint. Our mission is to provide a platform where journalists can work diligently and engage in storytelling without fear. I believe journalists should work on behalf of the common good of people, not special interests.
For Truth's platform is dedicated to launching stories that people can watch on demand at their leisure. Our goal is to bridge the gap between the science community and the common citizen. We want to investigate these environmental issues that ultimately affect all of us including, our economy.
All of our donors will be the first to receive For Truth Media's latest investigative reports. In addition to keeping you informed we want to help you help us promote community-driven, earth-conscious media with these rewards:
Risks and challenges
The goal of this campaign is to raise startup capital necessary to finish production of our second investigative news report and begin to sustain ongoing production. We have the technical expertise to do this and we have already produced pieces to refine our production process so that we may set clear metrics and increase production capacity. If we meet our fundraising goal, our risks should be minimal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
