Shine So Bright is a Christmas story. It's the story of a little star named LoLo Star who just wants to be accepted by all the other stars. But her shine is not so bright, so the other stars make fun of her. One day the other stars encourage the Naughty North Wind to blow LoLo Star out into Far Heaven. I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say LoLo finds unexpected hope to shine just when she thought all was lost.
The Book Itself
The books will be printed with a beautiful "Soft Touch" aqueous soft cover, with an embossed image and foil stamp. Our goal is to make something magical you and your family will love. We are also including several black and white "prints" in the back of the book that you and your kids (or just you!) can color together! We're excited about that.
Here's Where You Can Help
Jordan and I decided to self-publish this book because we believe in the message of LoLo Star's story. And we want you to be part of it!
Here's what the campaign will fund:
- Book printing (we are getting it printed in bulk so its cheaper)
- Shipping costs (so we can get it to you!)
- Pure joy of all our readers! :)
Jordan and I have done all the writing and illustrating at no cost.
Humbly Asking You For Your Hard-earned Money
When you make a pledge to our campaign you are, essentially, pre-ordering the book. The rewards reflect this. You'll receive a lovingly packaged book, and most of the rewards include author autographs, and our enduring love and thankfulness for helping LoLo truly shine!
The Back Story
Two years ago, while I was living in Oxford, I began telling my three pixie-daughters the story of LoLo Star. I made it all up in one evening, and each night they asked for more about LoLo Star.
I made sure to write it all down, and then I really fell in love with the character. I met Jordan through a mutual friend and asked her if she would draw me a picture of LoLo Star. From there, the idea birthed: we should make this into a book! And, voilla!
For the last decade I've worked as a full-time freelance writer. I've written books with Grammy Awarded winning musicians and NFL MVPs. Over the last four years I have published three of my own books: Veneer (Zondervan), Home Behind the Sun (Thomas Nelson), and Longing For More (Bethany House). I am currently finishing my PhD at King's College London. My thesis studies beauty in the works of C.S. Lewis.
Jordan is a senior at Anderson University studying graphic design. She has worked closely with the solo artist Lacey Sturm, the former lead singer of the platinum-selling band Flyleaf, designing merchandise and illustrating Lacey’s book The Reason (Baker Publishing). Jordan continues to design, illustrate, sing, play guitar, and write songs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's your target audience? It's written for ages seven and above. My girls are eight, five, and three. It's really written to be a family book; the kind you sit around the Christmas tree and read during the holidays. For maximum enjoyment, take turns reading as parents, cousins, sisters, brothers, uncles, aunts and so on. I tested the story on a bunch of my friends who have young kids like mine. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. And, kids don't lie! :)
What does LoLo Star discover out in Far Heaven? Well, I can't really tell you this or I'll ruin the ending. But I can say, that LoLo runs into a magnificent character called the Star Angel. And he has a special task for LoLo. What is it? You'll have to read to find out.
Risks and challenges
The book is all written and Jordan is finishing the illustrations as we speak! We're trying our hardest to have it all ready to go and ship to you after Thanksgiving! If we encounter a delay, we'll take full responsibility for gift giving awkwardness that ensues! It's the busiest time of year for printers, so we ask for your patience, and give you our thanks for your generous pledge!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
