Before you dig in and read about The Pill Pupper™, I want you to know something:
I’m an ordinary guy.
I’m not a Product Manager, ex-engineer, or any of those other confidence-instilling job titles you see here on Kickstarter.
I’m just a guy that wanted a better way to give my daddy’s girl (a hot-dog-shaped furball named Marcy) her daily medication.
I’ve worked tirelessly for the past several months to get this Kickstarter launched. I’ve worked side-by-side with my engineer, and I’ve shopped dozens of manufacturers across the world to find one that I trusted.
I’ve literally put blood, sweat, and tears into making The Pill Pupper™ a reality.
It’s finally to the point that I know without a doubt that I’ll deliver on my promises to you: the backers.
I hope The Pill Pupper™ helps you and your little furball as much as it’s helped me and mine — thank you so much for checking it out!
Introducing The Pill Pupper™: The Most Affordable, Stress-and-Mess-Free Way to Medicate Your Cat or Dog.
It’s also Marcy’s new best friend — and it’ll be your cat or dog’s best friend too, the first time you give it a try.
Say Goodbye To:
- Overpriced “pill treats” that are packed with preservatives and allergens
- Inhumane “pill poppers” and pill guns crammed down your beloved pet’s throat
- Nipped and drool-covered fingers
Pet Meds ≠ Torture
Before I designed The Pill Pupper™, my only choices for giving Marcy oral medication were:
- $10+ bags of specialized treats that lasted less than a month
- Pill guns that terrified her and seemed like torture
- Covering our fingers with peanut butter and letting her slobber all over my hands
- A time-consuming ritual of pulling out and prepping a pill-stuffed piece of cheese or hot dog
The first time you give your cat or dog a pill in less than 5 seconds…
Or realize you’ll never have to buy another $10 bag of treats packed with mystery ingredients.
The first time you don’t have to get out the peanut butter or cheese…
And the medication…
AND the knife or spoon…
Then have to put it all away 60 seconds later and wash the slobber off of your fingers…
You’ll know what makes The Pill Pupper™ so special to me, Marcy, and everyone else that’s tried it so far.
Turning Skeptics Into Believers
“It doesn’t look like anything special.”
“Just stuff the pill in some cheese.”
“Why not just buy Pill Pockets®?”
I heard several variations of these questions after finalizing my prototype and beginning market research.
But time after time, when I let pet owners use The Pill Pupper™ to give pills and homemade treats to their pets, they were blown away by how quick and easy it was to use, and how even the most skeptical cats and dogs ate from the device without any hesitation.
How exactly does it work?
5 Steps to Pain-Free Pet Meds
If you'd rather not watch the 30-second video above, here are the same step-by-step instructions in illustration + text format:
Step 1: Fill The Pill Pupper™ with Something Tasty...
Just fill the middle section of The Pill Pupper™ with cream cheese, natural peanut butter, or your favorite homemade recipe...
Step 2: Add the Medication Your Pet Needs to Take...
Use the clearly-marked indicators to space your pet's medication equally throughout the tasty treat...
If you're using The Pill Pupper™ for homemade treats rather than medication, put tasty bits of carrots, blueberries, or something else your pet will love spaced between these markings instead!
Step 3: Push the Rear Piece to the Next Indicated Dose...
Insert the rear piece, and use the markings on it to push out just enough of the "treat" inside, which secretly contains a dose of medication...
Step 4: Present to Your Pet and Be Amazed!
Hold The Pill Pupper™ down to your dog or cat and watch as they eat the tasty treat without even realizing they're taking a pill!
Step 5: Put the Cap Back On, and Store for Future Use!
Screw the cap back on The Pill Pupper™ and store it in the fridge for several more pain-free doses before it needs a refill.
“Why such a high funding goal for such a simple product?”
Believe it or not, The Pill Pupper™ is actually a fairly complex product to manufacture. I knew when I set out to create it that I wanted an attractive, dog-shaped design, and there were multiple points during the design process that I was encouraged to give up on that vision.
Instead, I pressed forward, invested more money, and got the exact product I set out to create.
Each component of The Pill Pupper™ has to be manufactured in multiple parts and assembled by hand, then welded together to be watertight (I don’t want water to get trapped inside when you’re cleaning it!).
Because of this, I need multiple molds to be precisely CNC-machined before we can begin manufacturing ($15,000). These are the metal molds used to manufacture all of The Pill Pupper's™ individual pieces for assembly.
I have to order a minimum number of units to partner with any manufacturer ($9,000).
Kickstarter applies all shipping fees toward the project's funding goal. The shipping allowance I've included with this project (25%) isn't enough to totally cover shipping if this project barely funds, but I'll happily cover the difference out of my own pocket.
Finally, Kickstarter’s fee and payment processing fees can cost up to 10%, which is the remaining $3,000.
"Why is shipping so expensive?" Each Pill Pupper™ box is 8.5" x 4.5" x 2" (21.5cm x 11.5cm x 5cm). Due to its somewhat bulky size, it's a little bit pricey to ship through USPS (domestically) and our international fulfillment partner (internationally).
These shipping rates are not marked up for profit at all.
I’m not looking to recoup a dime of the $10,000+ I’ve already invested in design and legal fees to get The Pill Pupper™ this far.
I believe in The Pill Pupper™, and I’ve put in a lot of work to get it this far. But I need your help to get The Pill Pupper™ manufactured and into your home!
I created The Pill Pupper™ out of necessity. My wife and I live just north of Austin, TX, where seasonal allergies wreak havoc on our three miniature dachshunds. Marcy (left) is also highly sensitive to gluten and wheat, ruling out traditional solutions for administering oral medication like Pill Pockets®.
After growing tired of getting my fingers nipped and slobbered on, and not wanting to resort to torturous pill guns, I came up with the idea for The Pill Pupper™ one afternoon. I sketched it out, made a crude wood prototype in my garage, and had it prototyping with an engineer the following week.
Now The Pill Pupper™ has finalized design, secured manufacturing, and is funding on Kickstarter in an attempt to create an affordable, humane way for pet owners to medicate their cats and dogs.
Thank you for considering backing The Pill Pupper™, and if you have ANY questions, please leave them in the comments below! Myself or one of my customer service team members will reply ASAP.
Risks and challenges
I’ve worked incredibly hard over the past several months to ensure there aren’t any surprises once this Kickstarter funds and we begin manufacturing.
When I began this project, I didn’t know that it would be so complex to manufacture the cosmetic design I envisioned. There were multiple elements in the design that were simply too thick to be viable for injection molding (the most common way to manufacture plastic products).
This caused several weeks of delays as my engineer pieced apart The Pill Pupper™ and hollowed out the individual components for assembly after manufacturing. I intentionally held off launching our Kickstarter campaign while we worked through those challenges.
Now that my engineer has perfected the design and I’ve finalized our manufacturing partner, there’s absolutely no reason for this project to be delayed. My manufacturing partner has an outstanding reputation for quality and hitting deadlines.
I’ve held off launching until I knew we could manufacture and deliver The Pill Pupper™ in time for the holidays. Now that I’m 100% confident that we’re going to hit that goal, we’re ready to rock.
Even with that in mind, I’ve allotted a three-week buffer in the above timeline (while I wait on Kickstarter funds to be transferred). I don’t expect any surprises and I’m hoping for an early delivery, but in case anything does pop up, I’ve made sure we have enough cushion to hit our holiday deadline!
