Born to Heal
Born to Heal
Despite our clear vision and undiminished enthusiasm for what could have been, we are terminating our efforts to complete this film. While it has appeared unlikely that we will achieve our funding goal, it is because of other unanticipated factors that we have come to this disappointing conclusion. If you have questions or are interested in where we go from here, visit our website www.russellfoureagles.com and leave your contact information.
Two plus years ago, a friend introduced us to Russell FourEagles. We came to know a humble man whose life is devoted to helping people through the practice of Native American healing traditions. Over time, we met many people who told us deeply grateful stories of having been helped by Russell. Our initial intrigue was fueled by these inspiring stories, and intertwining all of it was the beautifully rich fabric of the Native American culture.
In our unintended journey down the Red Road, we were exposed to a belief system grounded in the spiritual interconnection between all things. As we gained a broader exposure within the Native American community, we were invited to take part in beautiful ceremonies of ancient heritage. For nearly 100 years, these ceremonies had been demonized and declared illegal on this continent. We were welcomed by a number of indigenous leaders who felt compelled to bring their ceremonies out of the darkness. They sought a greater awareness of their traditions in an effort to promote a more healthy existence between all people, all nations, and all things. This connection between all things is expressed in the Lakota phrase, All My Relations, which refers to each of us being inseparably connected to every person, plant, animal, object and energy on this planet.
Our intention to tell this story of a Native American healer expanded into the additional goal of bringing a broader awareness to a rich culture centered in treating our planet and one another with love and respect. I know this sounds flowery and overly ambitious, but our experience was that simply by being exposed to the beauty and traditions of this movement, it was impossible not to be moved yourself.
While our motives were born out of respect and good intention, some have found offense with our execution and we are deeply apologetic for that. If we have exhibited disrespect in any way, we offer our sincere apologies.
Despite our exposure to many who expressed a need for all people to walk together in prayer, others have expressed a territorial unwillingness to share the majesty of their culture. We regret that this is the case, but our efforts have created controversy and it is an unmistakable truth that this is not our culture to share. Consequently, we are terminating our efforts to produce a documentary on an amazing man of healing and his Native American culture.
Thank you to all of our supporters. We are deeply appreciative of your generosity as well as your faith in our mission. Thank you to the people who embraced us and exposed us to the Native American culture. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Thank you to Russell, who has helped numerous friends and family in their pursuit of wellness. It’s been a gift to spend time with you and it is an honor to know you as a friend.
Again, if you have questions or are interested in where we go from here, please visit our website www.russellfoureagles.com and leave your contact information. Additionally, if you backed of our project in lieu of making a donation to Russell, please consider redirecting your donation to him. This can be done using a Pay Pal button, also at our website.
Be well. All my relations ~

Growing up in a tarpaper shack in the north woods, Russell FourEagles was born to be a healer. His grandmother chose him to learn the accumulated wisdom from over 200 generations of family healers.
Russell’s life journey bridges the traditions of his ancestors with the realities of modern times in a fascinating story of conflict, sacrifice, insight, and inspiration. Imagine a young man, trained as a healer, on high alert as he walks point through the war-torn jungles of Vietnam. Throughout his life, the challenge of straddling two very different worlds has been a consistent theme.
But above it all, his is a story of an amazing man dedicated to bringing hope and healing to people in need.
By helping us document Russell's fascinating journey, you could be paying forward a second chance, a new direction, or a new hope to someone searching and unaware of the promise offered from telling this untold story.
Russell introduces himself and his healing practice
We're committed to telling the story of this amazing man along with a handful of stories from some of the many lives he has touched. We've recorded many emotional and inspiring testimonies of renewed wellness from Russell's clients, including one real-time battle with brain cancer that is still playing out. The accounts we've collected provide a convincing mosaic of a Native American providing hope and healing for those in search of emotional, spiritual and physical wellness.
Over the past two years, we’ve made great progress collecting content. We've driven thousands of miles doing research and interviews. We’ve slept many nights in tents with our equipment locked up in our cars right beside us and we’ve missed too many meals to count. Throughout our efforts, we’ve been swept up and pushed along by the stories, sounds and images of Russell's life journey.
When combining Russell's life journey with inspiring testimony from just some of the many people he has touched, his story elevates from one of fascination, to one that quite simply needs to be told.
A client of Russell's relates her experience
We’ve made great progress to date. We've amassed many hours of video footage, filmed several stories of clients' healing experiences, recorded several soundtracks of original music, completed a nearly ten minute clip previewing our documentary and researched film festivals relevant to our project .
We’re committed to telling this story, but we need your help to finish.
Only with your support will we be able to finish this film and ensure that that it gets seen by as wide an audience as possible. Below, we've outlined our goals in obtaining the necessary funds to finish this project. We have both a minimum goal as well as a stretch goal which will allow us to tell this story with the full detail and artistic beauty it so richly deserves.
MINIMUM GOAL $52,000 Our base line goal will provide us enough funding to complete a 30-45 minute film. We will tell the fascinating and ongoing life story of Russell FourEagles and will document the experiences from several of his clients. Specific expenses include:
- travel expenses needed to capture more meetings with Russell Four Eagles and his clients
- rental of additional video production equipment
- procuring licensing rights for additional music to layer into the film
- postproduction editing, use of captions, color correction, sound mixing, and DVD production
- post production PR
- two film festival application fees and associated travel expenses
STRETCH GOAL $97,000 In addition to the above, achieving our stretch goal will allow us to delve more deeply into Russell's story and capture a wider variety of the stories of how his healings have helped people. We anticipate the film would extend to 60-90 minutes. This level of funding will allow us to:
- expand on Russell's story in a more thorough and artistic fashion
- explore doing reenactments of some client stories
- travel to meet with other Native American elders and healers
- more completely tell the story of a woman who is currently in an uncertain battle against stage IV brain cancer
- capture more original soundtracks and license additional music to layer into the film
- access resources to enhance the production value of the film
- two film festival application fees and associated travel expenses
Any additional funding over and above our stretch goal will allow us to shift our content capture form a regional basis to more of a national focus while enabling us to further upgrade the production value of this film.
We have been gifted unique access into a fascinating story. This includes a trustful intimacy into the life and times of a modern day medicine man, his ancient indigenous healing traditions, and many emotional and inspiring stories of renewed wellness. Given this access, we feel we have a bountiful trove of content to pursue.
It's been a fascinating, enlightening and deeply rewarding journey for us and we very much look forward to sharing it with you.

Risks and challenges
We have made great progress, there remains much to be done in completing this documentary. We think the video clips of our film progress, as well as the track record of Dacquisto Photography and Coach House Creative, demonstrates our passion which will be applied in the successful completion of this film.
While it is our goal and sincere intent to have this film finished in December of 2014, concurrent with Russell's book release, The Making of a Healer, we cannot guarantee this date. Since you are intimately tied to our success, if delays do occur, we'll make sure you are the first to know and we'll commit to keeping your updated on our headway with updates and progress reports.
Lastly, your contribution only gets collected if we have enough funding to finish our project. If we don’t get all of what we are asking for, we won’t get any of it and this story will not be told.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
