DARIUSTX is a release-valve solo side project that I've worked on over the past few years in between composing for film/tv, studio and session work, and touring. So far, I've got 4 studio albums and a couple of live performance recordings from this project in my catalog that I'm really proud of. A bunch of tracks have won awards and been placed in TV and film, but I mainly write this music just for me and you.
After 3 years of writing, editing, discarding, procrastinating, promising delivery on social media, and record pre-production, we're FINALLY ready to cut the fifth DTX album. And hoo boy, it's a doozy.
The ultimate goal is to gather up a gang of all our pals from NYC, Atlanta, Texas, and SoCal and bang out these songs in LA during one long session. Then, along with a digital-only release, we intend to press DOUBLE VINYL (similar to the Foreigner song in title only). It's ultra ambitious, but you only miss (insert your own baseball metaphor here).
With these album(s) I'm getting back to my Texas/Louisiana roots. I wouldn't say it's 100% country, it's still my own sound of southern singer-songwriter junk, but to borrow a phrase from the homie Everlast, it's "Country Adjacent."
Here's where you come in. We're shooting for a measly $5000 to make this thing and we need your help. We're not asking for donations, but just for you to pre-order the album so we can get some production costs together. We've got some really cool perks lined up too, to thank you for your continued support of indie music.
"But Darius, you old horse thief, $5000 isn't enough to make a whole double album and also pay everybody AND pay for vinyl pressing." Well, you're right, you rascal, and I only stole one horse that one time and it was a mini horse.
Since I have my own studio in LA, we can do all the tracking, editing, and mixing here. I've got a bunch of pals that will work for way less than they normally do because they are handsome, and infinitely talented, and look good in every single thing they wear, including poly blends.
Plus, whatever we raise here, I'm matching 100% with my own dollas, y'all. (Probably more than 100% because I have expensive tastes and that Cristal won't pop itself)
These albums were never about making any money (thank god), they just have been something I do because I am ultra-passionate about making original independent music with my very best chums.
Most of you know that I'm a film and television composer during the day (and often at night) and these DARIUSTX albums give me a creative outlet I sometimes don't get while composing to picture.
So peep the perks, throw in what you can, and wish me luck making the new record. Regardless, thank you for supporting independent music. You're the cot dam bee's knees and I couldn't do anything I do without you. Yes YOU.
And more on me:
Risks and challenges
The release date of September 2015 is a strong tentative. Life is a tricky devil sometimes and we all know what happened to the best laid plans of mice and men: George never let Lenny tend the rabbits so they both went on Laverne and Shirley and bit the heels of their hands at pretty ladies, etc. etc. What I'm trying to say is: we're shooting for September, come hell or high water, but it may be a touch later than that.
ALSO, the vinyl release may just be a 'best-of' rather than a double album, dependent on the numbers.
