We are Domio Sports, the company behind Domio, the top-rated helmet audio system that delivers the most powerful surround sound experience for your helmet, from the outside in.
After having launched and shipped thousands of units worldwide, we’re here with our second product, the all-new Domio Pro.
Domio Pro builds on the awesome performance of the original product, but we’ve now added voice communications with our wireless noise cancelling Air Mic™, in addition to enhanced audio electronics! Imagine a bigger sound, now with voice capability.
We’re bringing it to you first Kickstarter, with deliveries starting in Fall 2018!
Domio mounts to the outside of your helmet to create an insane audio experience on the inside. Traditional speakers work by transferring sound energy through air.
Domio is engineered to transfer sound energy through solid materials (the helmet shell). Our proprietary Vibro-Audio™ technology sends micro-vibration pulses into the shell of the helmet creating a dome of audio on the inside.
Don't worry, you won't actually feel any vibration!
The Domio & Domio Pro product lines are powered by our patent-pending micro-vibration audio system: Vibro-Audio™.
Vibro-Audio™ works by using an alternative medium to transmit sound waves. Sounds typically travel through the air and then enter our ear canal and cause tiny vibrations in our eardrum. Sounds can also be transmitted through other media, such as water or solids.
Domio's Vibro-Audio™ uses special components, technologies, and materials that transmit sound directly to the helmet. The rigid, dome structure of the helmet ends up being a really awesome medium, and as a result allows for a truly impressive listening experience.
When you pledge today you’ll be the first to get your Domio Pro at a huge discount, and best of all your delivery is just a few months away!
While Domio Pro works with any helmet we highly recommend the following styles for optimal audio performance.
You can mount your Domio Pro on the top, side or back of your helmet. It’s entirely up to you and how you want to ride! However, the Air Mic™ should be mounted closer to the mouth, either on the front side or inside the chin guard of your helmet.
Domio started in a basement in January 2016. Since that time, we’ve spent the last two and a half years developing, tweaking and launching our first product Domio, and then developing our second product the Domio Pro:
Domio Sports was founded with a mission to completely rethink how audio and communications are enjoyed during sports and outdoor activities. The two co-founders, Bart and Seb, have been long-time friends and involved in everything from motorcycling, snowboarding, and kitesurfing since an early age.
The two friends loved music and outdoor sports but struggled to find an audio (and comms) solution that worked well when wearing a helmet. The available products were either uncomfortable, sounded very poor, and came with cumbersome assembly and wires. Most of all, they were all unsafe - blocking the outside sound with earbuds or speaker inserts, and cutting off a vital sense when you needed it most.
So in early 2016 the journey began to build something better. After two years of development with a great team of engineers and designers, countless hours testing the product themselves, Domio Sports launched its first product - the Domio in 2017.
Domio proved to be a huge hit with the company quickly selling thousands of units worldwide across dozens of key retailers. However, a good number of users came back asking for one important addition to the Domio: voice communication. So we are here today launching the second version of the Domio, the Domio Pro now with voice communication capability!
Risks and challenges
We are very confident in our ability to execute and deliver on the Domio Pro given our past experience in designing, developing, manufacturing and delivering the first Domio product. We have developed and continue to maintain strong relationships with our partners in plastics production, electronics manufacturing, packaging, and logistics. Hardware product development still does comes with its own unique challenges and risks, but we have taken measures to mitigate these risks as best as possible.
Production readiness: Upon a successful funding campaign, we will work with our production partners on production readiness including tooling manufacture and production verification testing. We’ve done this before and the Domio Pro is an upgrade of our existing Domio product, but at times unforeseen issues may arise when taking a prototype design to the production floor.
Supply chain: We source most of our components from qualified suppliers around the world. When possible we strive to include flexibility in our bill of materials in terms of exact part and supplier. In some cases though this flexibility is limited and we are dependent on a sole part/sole source. We’ve held advanced sourcing discussions with these suppliers but there is a risk specific parts may have lengthened lead times due to unforeseen demand.
Logistics: We bring in all components and subassemblies to our contract manufacturer in Canada. Successful execution is dependent on parts arriving without delay. We will be using already tested and tried logistics partners however, unforeseen issues may arise with third party logistics companies to ship product to our partner facility.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
