STRETCH GOAL #1 - $2200
If we can get stretch ourselves to $2200 we're going to provide a 10 page digital only Classic Pulp Supplemental Comic to EVERY BACKER!! This thing is packed with some awesome stuff we've dug out of crates, backrooms, basements, and under couches. Let's go!!
One thing we love at SOURCE POINT PRESS is good, old-fashioned, pulp-fueled, fictional fun!
That's why we started digging through those particularly lonely long boxes, the ones that hide out in the back of the shops. Far away from those well-used and picked over back issues of Batman and the X-Men, we found beat up old copies from the likes of American Comics Group, Star Publications, Prize, and Charlton Comics.
These publishers, and others likes them, rose up between the two great Superhero eras of comics in the 1930s and the 1960s, by filling the pages of their books with outlaw-chasing cowboys, hideous monsters from outer space, hard-talking detectives, and beautiful women. They were PULP, and we loved them!
Source Point Press Art Director, Joshua Werner, had a plan. He wanted to buy up all these old issues and scan them into a computer. Then, using his prodigious skill and patience, Josh painstakingly cleaned up each page individually, removing all the bends and folds and years of damage. He also adjusted the colors and took great care that the final printed books will look as close as possible to what these beautiful pieces looked like when they came off the presses in the 1940s and 1950s.
We didn't stop there. See, in those times it wasn't uncommon for stories to go to print without any credit to the creators being included. We started researching. Digging through old records, other magazines and comics from the era, and even asking around to some old-timers, we've managed to put a name to a lot of these old stories! We weren't 100% successful, but it's work we think is worth doing.
We've been doing micro-print runs of these two issues for about a year. Usually around 20 copies to take to conventions. Sometimes, they're ignored, but more often than not, we sell them all. We believe people are still looking for exactly this kind of thing! We'd really like to be able to do a larger scale print run of these books, and get a little extra cash on hand to get started on Classic Pulp #3 and #4! Please help us make it happen and spread the word of PULP COMIC GOODNESS!
