Leave the ice, just do something nice…

The internet has gone crazy recently with people tipping buckets of ice water over their heads all in the name of charity, well now we’ve got another little challenge for you…don’t worry, this is a little less painful.

All we’re asking is that you ‘do something nice’ by giving up one thing this week, and using the money you save as a pledge on our kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.

Skip the kebab after a night out, walk instead of getting a taxi or even just leave that chocolate bar you know you shouldn’t be having. Instead, use the money to make a huge difference to planabee, our new event technology idea…and then nominate anyone you think is in need of ‘doing something nice’ that day.

Make sure to post your challenge and a screen shot of your pledge on your favourite social media e.g. Twitter, Facebook and spread the goodness with your friends by nominating them in your post.

What is planabee

More and more PA’s and admin professionals are tasked with planning company events, whether it be a training day, a networking evening or perhaps work Christmasparty. Planning an event of any kind is a stressful task for even an experienced event planner so you can imagine how much more taxing it must be for someone who is unfamiliar with the job.

As event planners ourselves, we are used to the usual manic supplier hunt; scrolling through website after website, submitting endless enquiry forms only to have to wait days to receive a quote or response. Not to mention the fear of ruining a customer's event, when a supplier proves to be unreliable or not up to scratch. Then there are the endless times that we just have a quick question we need answering. So we decided that if this was something we wanted, no, needed, then surely the rest of our colleagues in the industry would feel the same way? As it turns out we were right, and as solution focused people, we decided to do something about it and planabee was born.

planabee is an interactive online tool designed to make the lives of anyone who plans events a lot easier! First website of its kind, it is designed to provide the events industry with supplier search, an event planning tool, social hub and advertising opportunity - all in one place, with the overall aim of creating an exclusive platform where business connections can be made. We have two main user groups: anyone who plans events and anyone who provides products and/or services for events.

What are the benefits 

The platform will allow event planners to quickly search, compare and review hundreds of trusted event industry suppliers, putting an end to the usual tedious supplier search. Inexperienced event organisers need fret no more as they will have access to the project planner tool with interactive calendar, email notifications and the ability to share and promote upcoming events. Thanks to the integrated social media platform where they can connect with other event planners they will be able to access valuable industry information and network with other professionals within the industry. With planabee in hand they will feel well equipped to create great events!

Simultaneously, event industry suppliers will be able to promote their products and service to a multitude of event planners, using the website as their work space and more. They will be able to build a detailed online profile, allowing them to showcase their services to a targeted audience. They can post special offers or news and receive business leads. Our platform will also provide them with instant feedback, reviews and an analytic tool. planabee is a one-of-a-kind interactive and engaging marketing tool. 

Why now? The events market is dynamic, distinctive, quickly evolving, and is growing in demand. We believe that we are about to create a truly exclusive market place for everyone in the events industry.  

How do we know it's needed? We have been working in the events industry for many years and have identified the need ourselves, but we have also listened to the customers and suppliers we have worked with, enabling us to confidently assert that there is a need for our product. We feel assured of its’ potential to succeed. 

Project timeline 

We have been working on this project for some months now and we have nearly reached the stage where we can start product development, which we couldn't be more thrilled about! 


Technical stuff

planabee will be developed from scratch using custom made web application, modern web technologies including Python and HTML 5 and powerful database engine to deliver seamless performance, maximum speed and maximum responsiveness. The application will be architected to satisfy any level of demand and scale (growth).

How much we need & what we need it for

We are seeking a total of £15,000 to support our project. If the campaign is successful, the funds will help us cover the costs of developing our mobile responsive website, which includes building the back-end and front-end infrastructure of the website. The money would also finance our efforts in raising greater awareness about planabee.

Risks and challenges

Like every project planabee has its challenges - there is no denying that.

We are ideas people but not software developers, this meant that we had to outsource the product development to people who have the skills and know how required to make our dream come true. We have checked them inside out to make sure they have the necessary skills, plus we have worked with them previously so we know we can expect work of the highest quality.

In addition, things can get delayed in the production process, because additional work will need to be completed after we see the initial prototype. The overall process is under our control and we all work from the same office, which helps to ensure the process runs smoothly. We are doing our best to identify any problems we could encounter on our journey in advance, and we're confident we will be able to quickly respond to the ones that are inevitable. We're very excited to get this product completed and launched to the industry in a timely manner so we will make every effort to stick like glue to the proposed schedule.
