Chorus Angelicus and Gaudeamus, the choirs underneath the "Joyful Noise, Inc." umbrella based in Torrington, CT, have not recorded a CD in seven years. Underneath recently-hired Artistic Director Gabriel Lofvall, the groups have flourished to a choral level that involves music from throughout the world. Gabriel hopes to capture this work in a recording entitled "Chakana Angelicus," (aka "The Latin-American Connection") featuring music from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and spanning hundreds of years of choral literature from such composers as Ernani Aguiar, Carlos Guastavino, Alberto Ginastera, and processional music found at Macchu Picchu in Peru. This recording will feature Gaudeamus (the adult choir) and the Senior and Junior Choirs of Chorus Angelicus.
The word "Chakana" is an ancient Incan word meaning "to cross" or "to bridge" - the title reflects this album's goal to bridge the gap between ancient music and contemporary music from South/Latin America.
Risks and challenges
Recording, producing, mastering, and printing CDs is an expensive undertaking. The choirs have dedicated countless hours of rehearsal and practice to ensure an authentic representation of this music's heritage and history.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
