Recently I received an invitation by a woman who operates a feedlot in Western Nevada to speak on a panel at an educational event, which takes place on March 8, the day before their annual bull sale. She has asked me to represent my perspective on climate change and the contributions of animal agriculture to climate change on a panel, which includes a climate change skeptic and a climate researcher who promotes animal agriculture intensification. She has told me the crowd of approximately 200 will be mostly cattle producers (75%) and locals (25%), and will disagree with my vegan philosophy but she assured me that the discussion will be professionally moderated, affable and the crowd will be courteous.
When the organizer saw on my personal website that I can sing she asked me if I would perform the national anthem at this event. She explained that ranchers are an incredibly patriotic group and to have me sing what they consider the most important song in the nation, will create a positive first impression. She added that she was not trying to get them to agree with me – she wants them to listen to me and really understand my perspective.
Music and Art
I feel that this is a very unique opportunity. I will be the lone vegan and I need more than facts and figures to reach my audience. I will do this with music and art.
There is something magical about music, and singing. Communication on a deep level is possible through song. In the next few weeks I will be preparing to sing AND create my interpretation of the Star Spangled Banner, exploring various emotional perspectives in order to make a powerful impression during my performance.
"A picture is worth a thousand words."
In order to engage the audience I will take important points from my research and create graphic art, using Photoshop and photography, to include in my Keynote slide presentation: simple images with a powerful message that everyone can understand.
This is where you come in. The Lone Vegan needs your support! All funds
will go entirely towards vocal preparation of the Star Spangled Banner
and producing the presentation for this challenging audience: vocal
coaching, research materials, photography, graphic art design.
Please donate today. Your contribution is tax deductible and every dollar counts!
Risks and challenges
The research and talk preparation must be completed for the event on March 8 in Nevada. I see this as a great opportunity to be heard in front of a challenging audience. The more support we receive, the better research and preparation we can do and the greater impact we can have on the audience. After this event we will continue to improve the talk and make as many presentations in the near future as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
