Drivin N Cryin's Kevn Kinney and The Golden Palominos' Anton Fier join forces to create "a good country mile."
We wish to raise funds for the production of a 10-12 song recording of Kevn Kinney (Drivin N Cryin) and Anton Fier (The Golden Palominos). The project will encompass all aspects of the recording process including: song selection, basic tracking, over-dubs, mixing, studio costs, mastering, artwork design, printing, duplication, formatting, packaging and distribution (both physical and digital).
memo from anton fier: i've known kevn kinney since 1987. we first worked together when i produced his band, drivin' n cryin's second album, "whisper tames the lion." i also produced his band's most recent album "(whatever happened to) the great american bubble factory". i consider him a great artist and a good friend.
a little more than two years ago we started getting together in my basement rehearsal space/home to play music just for the fun of it....for its' own sake.....in a spirit of mutual admiration and respect. we played a variety of material: old kevn songs.....drivin n cryin tunes......songs that we came up with together via jamming and some of our favorite songs by other artists/writers.....we have a ton of rehearsal tapes........some things worked, some things didn't, some stuff was incredible.... and it all was fun and therapeutic for us....it was what we both needed at the time. we also started playing a 75 week residency every monday night at shayni rae's truckstop.....this event was organized by kevn's wife, shayni rae.....and held at the new york nightclub, the national underground. ask anyone who ever attended one of these events, it was never less than a great night of music.....again for its' own sake....for the fun of it.....in a spirit of mutual admiration and respect. it was there that these songs we had been jamming on in my basement became tighter and more developed. i then had the bright idea that we should make a record of the best of these tunes.....i thought it was something special.....something unlike anything else that was going on at the time....and therefore something that should be documented.....because i thought it was important. we started pouring our own money into it....thinking that somewhere along the way a record company would pick it up and bail us out.......i forgot that the world had changed....the music business as i knew it no longer existed.......and then we ran out of money.....with the record about 80% completed..... between kevn and myself we've got about 18k of our own money tied up in this great unfinished record.....and if kevn and i had enough money to finish it ourselves we wouldn't be here...... but here we are.....and that's where you come in (if you so choose)........we need $10,000 to finish the recording, mixing, mastering, and manufacturing of a great record. if we didn't think it was great we'd just cut our losses and move on....but we both think it has great musical value...... one of the best records either one of us has ever been involved in.....and that's saying a lot considering all of the records kevn and i have participated in over the years.....we're not asking to get our original investment back.....just enough to finish and release it.
so.....if you've ever been a fan of kevn's music or mine..... maybe you'd like to buy one of these records in advance......or choose one of the other rewards and help bring a great record to what remains of the marketplace......where it will exist in one form or another....forever. i promise you won't be disappointed...... and i'll be forever grateful to you. apart from kevn and i we have andy hess on the fender bass. the incredible tony scherr on slide guitar (and some acoustic guitar too). this is the core unit. there's a lot of guests too..... chris masterson (son volt), eleanor whitmore (steve earle), aaron lee tasjian (the madison square gardeners), leslie mendelsohn, and many others...... it's kind of like a kevn kinney solo record produced by me in a golden palominos context...... in fact it is...... kevn kinney & the golden palominos: a good country mile......... thanks for your time....
