AGP::Epica is a tactical RPG centred around you, the player. Form a faction, become either a merchants guild, a mercenary company or an assassin's guild and carve a name for yourself in this unforgiving sci-fi dystopia.
Explore the open worlds of a variety of planets, each with their own challenges and environmental hazards. Some areas are deemed quest areas which provide the players with an opportunity to complete a series random missions for one of the factions. As players complete missions they find new weapons, armour and gain favor with the associated faction. Between quests the players can decide to complete the quest and claim the collective reward from the mission chain, or potentially risk it, increase the difficulty of the missions and attempt to complete another. Some areas will autocomplete after reaching a certain level and will automatically direct players to the next quest objective.
Players can also collect crafting materials and, using enormous 3D printers, craft large capital ships which act as player bases with assignable quarters, customizable rooms, mess halls, a bridge and shipyards where smaller ships can be crafted and docked.
This project was Greenlit by the Steam community in August of 2015 and is in the final steps of alpha testing and development before it is released on Steam Early Access.
While early release access via steam is anticipated to be $5 to fund the remaining core development, we are striving towards a free to play model after releasing on Steam with seasonal support packs offering custom items, banners, skins and additional inventory space.
AGP::Epica features following:
- A dynamic open world which reacts to the players choices
- Expansive combat ranging from third person to capital ship battles
- Highly customizable weapons and armour
- Random quest generator providing extended replay value
- Customizable key mapping of 216 skills
- Open class skill system allowing for highly personalized gameplay styles (currently 54 skills)
- Rich crafting system based on a modified periodic table of elements and 3D printing
- Cooperative, squad based multiplayer for up to 64 players (4 during beta 1.0)
This game is being designed and developed using a perpetual development model. Items, features and skills are added and tested with each update. In anticipation of this, an advanced keybinding system was developed to house the many skills which have been planned. The result is 216 skills and 5 weapons potentially being equipped at any given time, which can be changed at any time, eliminating the need to create a new character while experimenting with different builds.
Factions can control territory, buy and sell goods, weapons or armour and offer quests to the players. Doing quests for a faction the player gains reputation which will can result in access to rare armour, weapons and skills.
Central to the story is you, the player.
You are the survivor of an Imperial Corporation transport ship which was destroyed in deep space. Under the terms of your conscription, desertion from your post for any reason (death, destruction of said post, etc) is punishable by death.
To stay alive players must stay under the radar of the Imperial Corporation while establishing themselves as a faction in the sector.
Players can register their guild, company or clan with the guild register, enabling a custom clan emblem upload which can be placed on flags, armour or vehicles. Clans also have access to adding their emblem on any orders their officers place.
The Imperial Corporation stake their claim wherever they please. Inhabited stations, moons or planets quickly fall under the raw firepower of the Imperial Fleet. The Corporation controls the primary source of water in the Attria System: Attria Prime, and lethally enforce a patent on the production of water.
The Drifters are a network of merchants guilds, mercenary companies and assassin clans who quietly resist and subvert Imperial settlement. They have established their own trade networks and live mostly self-sufficiently, however still suffer illegal water raids by the Imperial Corporation and constant harassment from the Raiders.
The Raiders faction is comprised of the clones of one man who, during the exodus from Earth, revoked the Post Earth Charter set forth to help us prevent making the same mistakes again and declared himself his own species.Through genetic modifications, nanotechnology and cloning he has created himself an army which he plunders and raids the solar system.
Engage in unforgiving combat. Inspired by tactical shooters which have one bullet, one kill methodologies, weapons each have a lethalty rating which determines the percent chance that it will kill an unarmoured target. If a target is hit and not killed it is stumbled for a short duration. Unless an area is captured it will continue to spawn enemies, ensuring there is no interruption to the flow of the gameplay. Rewards which are earned by killing enemies or completing missions are collectively pooled and collected upon completion of the mission chain. Should the mission chain fail, the rewards are lost and the group can attempt a fresh mission chain.
Single Player or Cooperative Multiplayer
Complete the missions at hand either on your own or with friends. Drop in and out co-op and fast, intuitive multiplayer controls and instant party making allow for players to coordinate like never before. How you play is up to you.

Modular armour can be found in games such as Skyrim, Oblivion, or Fallout. Each of these games have a system which a player can mix and match different types of armour; wearing a leather cuirass and steel gauntlets for example.
We have reached out to the Unreal development community for assistance in producing this asset. Once implemented, additional armour sets can be added easily to the game adding rich diversity of enemies and player appearance options.
In order to pay the artists to create the armour and the time to program and implement it an influx of money needs to happen. Everything else has been done with assets found on the Unreal Marketplace or free assets from Epic Games.
In order to make AGP::Epica have its own style, it requires the work of talented artists and those artists need to be paid. The modular armour will also provides a visual and tactical variety to the spawned humanoid monsters, and once acquired, allow players to customize the armour colour, and mix and match different sets.

Risks and challenges
Risk happens in any project, the key is to identify and mitigate those risks. By using the Unreal 4 Engine, a significant amount of risk is mitigated thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Epic Games team and the Unreal Development community, forums & AnswerHUB.
The strongest risk is in delays, rather than an inability to complete the project. The next phase of design requires collaborators from the community to input their artistic talent and feedback and sometimes delays happen. This has been anticipated for with a series of procedures should someone be late with an anticipated contribution, or unable to complete their contribution.
A series of technical demonstrations, prototypes as well as the currently playable game have demonstrated the desired features of the game are possible, or better, fully functional and already implemented in the game.
Follow through has been demonstrated by an additional year of self funded development time which has resulted in a more complete project which still needs your help to achieve completion.
Finally, as this project is a digital project, data loss is a potential risk which has been mitigated early on. Regular on site and off site back ups are preformed, maintained and verified to ensure that work isn't lost in case of a hardware failure.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
