The Painted Pitbull Project is something I've been planning for quite a while now, but I've been held up by funding which is why I'm here now. The premise is pretty simple - I would like to create a series of 15 - 20 paintings that each feature a pitbull as their main subject. The portraits will be of dogs at several local dog rescues (both pitbull specific and all-breed NO KILL shelters), the finished work will then be auctioned off at a fund raising/ awareness / adoption event - with the proceeds from each piece benefiting the organization caring for it's subject - each dog generating funds for it's own shelter / rescue.
The funds I'm seeking are to cover materials, the rewards I'm offering and minimal living expenses while I create the series (approximately $200 per painting) - with this funding I could approach this project like a full-time job, which I see as the best way to make it happen. Each piece should take about a week to complete. I have sold many paintings for prices between $450-$650 and this is my target price range for this collection - essentially my goal is to turn the $5,200 I collect into at least $10,000 in revenue for the shelters. If I receive an excess of funding the money will go towards additional paintings.
While this is a portrait project, these will not be your average pet-portraits! My goal is to create beautiful, detailed paintings that have enough content and artistic merit to stand alone - I plan to use the dog as a vehicle to express emotion in a way that engages the viewer be they a dog-lover or not, and incorporate a variety of elements and environments that will give the pieces the narrative quality and symbolist interest that I try to capture in my figurative work. Basically, if I hope to create work that will sell for my target price at auction I feel it is imperative that these works be successful, fully-realized pieces of art as well as good portraits.
