It's superstructure time and we have some totally cool new goodies for you.
In our campaign video we showed you that you can build internal structures and small external buildings, but those of you that saw us on Beasts of War will also remember Justine showing you the prototype of a small building that can be set up all by itself on any battlefield. Well, that was the prototype, we now bring you the finished article...
The Outposts are a range of buildings that are completely self contained. There are three variants and each one offers brand new textures and a completely new build mechanic.
On our last Kickstarter campaign we produced some small Shanty buildings and these were, and still are, very popular. This really got us thinking and we have taken that idea and evolved it into the Outpost Add-ons.
There are three different sizes, Checkpoint Alpha, Station Zeta and Delta Garrison all with lift off roofs that give you full access to the inside of every room. Let's have a look at each in turn:
This is the smallest offering and is compact, but looks impressive on the battlefield. It uses the new sloped viewpoint walls, not only do these look great they also add 60% extra floor space to the inside of an otherwise smallish bunker.
Remove the roof and it has two rooms. The forward room is the main area and it's easy to pack it with cargo and scatter from your main core pledges.
The rear room is small and could be used for storage; in the examples we have set up a comms room.
You might have noticed it also has a really cool sentry barrier. This looks great, but can also be inserted into the viewpoint to make it an armour plated wall.
This is the midsize offering, it gives you more space inside and generally is all 'round a beefy looking structure. Again, it uses the new sloped viewpoint walls that add extra floor space. It also comes with steps for accessing the ample roof space for when you need to take higher ground :o)
Remove the roof and you get access to the 3 small rooms inside. Of course, at this point we should mention that you don't have to build it with three rooms, you can insert or remove the internal walls as needed for various configurations.
The same goes for the external shape, it's completely modular like all our terrain so you can merge this Station Zeta with the Checkpoint Alpha for a larger building.
This is the big one and is packed with rooms large and small and it's multilevel too. It has 4 viewpoints and really dominates the tabletop. As you can see from the long shot this bad boy takes up a large proportion of a 2ft x 2ft game mat.
On the ground floor you have 4 rooms, a small corridor (for that bottle neck action) and a dedicated viewpoint room.
On the upper level you have another room that is removal to allow access to the ground level room below. The upper room sits atop a massive roof space, plenty of room for a skirmish or two.
Removing the roof really shows how much game action can take place inside. We set up a control room, clone room, medical room and still had space. We set this up with a small access corridor too, it gives some really nice cramped action, just don't be in it if someone tosses a grenade ;o)
You can remove the roof in sections to reveal a few rooms at a time which adds another cool in game mechanic to keep your opponent guessing.
"That's all very well guys, but how much are they going to cost"
- Checkpoint Alpha £14
- Station Zeta £18
- Delta Garrison £28
All three Outpost add-ons will be unlocked at £120K so you know what to do. If you want them just pledge up now to unlock them and they will be yours.
We love these new buildings, they are really impressive sitting on your tabletop, but just as importantly they unlock so much potential for new scenarios.
Most buildings available are purely scenic, but with these outposts being able to enter every structure, every room and corridor opens up new ways to play rescue, capture, destroy location, search and many more missions types.
I could talk about these outposts all day (you can probably tell I'm exited), but I'll stop now so we can crack on with the campaign.
Over and Out for now...
Colin & Wayne :)
