"A beautifully monstrous punk vampire story, an urban fantasy 1977 rendered in a kaleidoscope of blood and toxins." -- Warren Ellis
I have this fully painted comic book project, finished and ready to fly. It's full color and extra long at 56 pages, so all the print-on-demand options have the cost per book higher than I'd like. It's my first major release and as a new creator, I want to make this book pretty accessible in terms of price. (Yes, there will be an electronic version at some point, but there's a few obstacles to get around first.) I aim to print 1000 copies "traditionally" (offset press) because I should be able to get the printing price per book cut by half or more. But that sort of printing requires money up front. ±$3500 is the lowest quote I've seen, $4500 - $5500 is more common.
So the money I'm requesting is to assist in that printing. If more money is raised, I will print more and/or print with a higher quality printer, and/or invest in some advertising.
As I mentioned in my video, I made a promise to myself (and others) to have this released by the end of February, a time that's important for personal reasons. It's an important promise to keep, but to allow for a reasonable amount of time here, I will move toward having an early release print-on-demand version available at the end of February, which I will pull if I meet my goal here. There will be some variations between the two (special content and/or cover), so early adopters can be happy.
BloodDreams has been floating around in my head, in various forms, for about 15 years. It wasn't until graduate school (2003) that the script really came together, and it wasn't until about five years ago that I really started to paint the way I wanted to paint for this project. So I'm committed to seeing this project through to the very end. It's been a long haul, and it's time for this thing to leave the nest & fly.
