My name is Jeremiah Liend. I am an artist, producer, parent, and student living in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I am here to offer this Kickstarter, which is intended to help create a new comedic play in a sustainable way.
This work represents the completion of a series of works I call The Pulitzer Trilogy. It began with the kickstarting and successful staging of 21st Century Play. You can see the performance for free, on the internet. Although not kickstarted, the sci-fi puppet tragicomedy Four Garys is thematically connected to both 21st Century Play, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It is also available for free, on the internet.
The idea for P.A.P.P.i.D. came about during a brain storming session with the cast of Four Garys. The question was asked, what WERE the Pulitzer Prize boards up to while society around them crumbled? This play answers this, and other, weirder questions by bringing together the board of six. They are a colorful team of road warrior academics who nominate and award the Pulitzer Prize in the apocalypse of the far future.
I strive as a creator to present theater cheaply, effectively, and as openly as possible. But, cheap is not free. You have to trust and believe that the reason we conduct this weird theater is not for the money, or the fame, or the fun. We do it because we are trying to create something new, and original, and not grossly commercialized into social irrelevance.
So, here I am, fez in hand, asking you to help me kickstart this art. If you have no money, I understand. You can still help a lot by like sharing this around. On the interwebs and in reals life. Write a letter of support to your local paper. Go tweet it out of your every infoport. Thanks so much to those who have continued to kickstart and support these projects through their donations, support, and advocacy. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
Risks and challenges
Kickstarter may be a largely drained artistic funding source.
People may not like or share the snappy video.
Someone might get stabbed in the gut.
No one might care.
I may have absolutely no idea what theater is, or how to create it.
The onus of creation may crush the ability to create.
We may close to well within our goal, only for everything to completely shit the bed due to the all or nothing funding model.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
