The One Piece Podcast started in 2009 with a vision: bring the greatest anime and manga series to the world. This August, we hope to take the next step.
The podcast will be heading to Japan to film a video documentary series for The One Piece Podcast starting August 5th. As part of the series we will have live video events, we hope to have video interviews, video tours of Japan, and cultural insights. Zach Logan will head to Japan with his audio equipment and video equipment to prepare both audio and video podcasts from the land where One Piece was born. We will visit One Piece events, exhibitions, One Piece bars, Shueisha, and more.
Our ultimate goal -- to sit down with the editors or creator of One Piece.
Greg will also be joining us in Tokyo for the duration of trip! You will get to see everything we see. We will give you a perspective of Japan only we at The One Piece Podcast can. Here are just some of the events we'll be visiting and reporting on:
Bandai Namco "Weekly Shonen Jump" Theme Park (Ikebukuro, Tokyo)
United States of Odaiba 2013 (Odaiba, Tokyo)
One Piece Grand Arena Tour (Shizuoka Twin Messe, Shizuoka)
One Piece Planetarium (Toshima-ku, Tokyo)
Universal Studios Japan (Osaka, Osaka)
We will also have a series of interviews that we will announce when we have confirmation... with the ultimate goal of interviewing the creator, editors, and directors of the One Piece manga and the anime. Help us reach the goal we've set forth since we began this podcast.
The One Piece Podcast was created in 2009 and has been nominated for three consecutive years as “Best Entertainment Podcast” in The Podcast Awards. It has been a top 100-rated entertainment podcast on iTunes in the United States, Japan, China, and Germany. It has also reached as high as #15 on Stitcher Radio’s Top 100 Entertainment. The podcast currently has over 10,000 Facebook and Twitter followers. The podcast follows the most popular series in Japan, One Piece.
One Piece has been running consistently in print and on television since 1997, and is currently the most popular comic and animated series in Japan. It has spawned 11 movies, documentaries, game shows, and an unfathomable amount of merchandise. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy in his quest to become the Pirate King in a world thrown into upheavel at the death of the previous Pirate King. The series follows his adventures as he faces a tyrannical World Government, assembles a crew, and explores an unknown and hostile world.
Here's some of the insight we have offered on One Piece in Japanese culture:
We must to raise $7,000 to bring the podcast to Japan for approximately 5 days, enough time to get interviews, and explore the country's culture and One Piece events and in an effort to reach the ultimate goal we set out when creating the podcast. This is an opportunity that may never present itself again, so help us make it happen!
In addition to rewards, all those who donate anything will receive a credit in the production.
Stretch goals are goals we have set forth to permit for additional coverage and rewards that we will be able to bring to you:
$8,000 -- We will be able to explore Japan beyond Tokyo, including Kagawa (where there is a special "One Piece" event) and Kumomoto (Oda's hometown), attend more events around the country, and provide overall better and more comprehensive coverage. We will also be able to use better camera and audio equipment, and we will be able to offer more prizes and merchandise for podcast and convention giveaways in the future.
$10,000 -- We will be able to bring an additional person, pending fluctuating costs and exchange rates, OR we will be able to conduct more comprehensive coverage around Japan.
Risks and challenges
There may be speed bumps in getting the production out immediately, if you are a video editor and would like to help "The One Piece Podcast Goes to Japan" please contact us at OnePiecePodcast@gmail.com. Regardless, we promise to begin the rollout of the podcast series in September 2013, a month after production.
Due to the tentative nature of interviews, we cannot guarantee that we will have any specific interviews at this time. Watch this space for information on who we plan to have. Even once we make an announcement, we cannot guarantee that the interview will happen due to sometimes unforeseen circumstances.
Because of the nature of this product, this will be our immediate priority. Audio interviews will be immediately released on the podcast as soon as production finishes, and video interviews will be released as soon as editing and production finishes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
