Strange things are afoot, after the sun goes down in Stormwell, Maine. Masked robots have been found pulling ocean pier heists. A masquerade gala for an exhibit of bizarre mythological creatures is in the works. One plucky PI and her cursed locket are snooping around abandoned islands. Lastly, lurking behind all of these events, is the dreadful League of Horror. The city's phantom protector, The October Ghost, will need to work his way through the macabre assortment of characters (the ax wielding, blood craving, and morose small-talk types) to stop these malevolent machinations.
Who is the October Ghost?
Pulp hero of the coastal Maine city of Stormwell, The October Ghost is an homage to silver age comic heroics, serial films of the 1940s, and offbeat adventures.
Whether he is facing off against horrific ghouls in a cemetery, having fisticuffs with a mentalist and his gorilla, or simply reading the local paper for upcoming science exhibits, The October Ghost is ready for perilous humor and quirky action!
Project Overview & Creator Insight
"The October Ghost vs. The League of Horror" is a 96 page book written, illustrated, lettered, and colored by me. This project will be the first full graphic novel work featuring my creation, the October Ghost.
As many of you may know, I have been illustrating the exploits of the October Ghost for the last five years in zine form, black and white comics, and full color outings as well. All of these previously published pages can be found on my site at www.unexpectedpress.com.
Each of these outings, I was the book designer / contributor / publisher / printing vendor liaison, so I am well versed in the time and costs involved in such projects. Now, I am excited to present the next chapter in this character's career in graphic novel form and want you, yes YOU, to be part of it.
"Hey there, Ryan. I see your words and images, but how can I get further insight into who you are?" - Inquisitive Backer
Great question, my good friend.
Check out the following interview I participated on, with fellow indie comic maker, Corey Hodgdon's "Maybe I'll Be Back" podcast. Or, for you audio-phobic patrons, you can read Joseph Carro's "Away With Words" blog, featuring my responses to his "Eight Simple Questions".
To create the book I want to present to you, I need help in the costs to get this off the ground (see the dynamic pie chart below). As you will see, the majority of the expenses go right into printing this volume. The rest comes down to additional expenses, but most importantly, getting the graphic novel to you!
The book has been scripted and is now in the thumbnail phase, where I am laying out the breakdowns and preparing the final color palette. These steps take some time and your assistance can help me dedicate hours solely to this project, when away from the day job.
Note: Above expenses do not account for the 1% donut consumption fee that I will be taking great advantage of.

Risks and challenges
Thank you for your outstanding support, whether you back the project, share it with others, or are simply interested enough to read this section.
There are many challenges that are tied to the creation, printing, shipping, and fulfilling all of the rewards. That being said, I am committed to this project completely and look forward to meeting all of our expectations in this Kickstarter.
To keep you, my friends, in the know of where I am on this project, I will be providing frequent updates as each stage is completed, including sneak peek images, snippets of scripts, videos of the process, along with basic notes to you all.
If there is anything that looks to impact delivery of the project rewards, you will be notified of them as they arise, along with my plan to solve for them, to maintain the trust we have in each other.
I have backed plenty of Kickstarter projects and understand the importance of communication and respect we share to accomplish everything together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
