Want To Upgrade Your Backer Level?

We are incredibly excited and humbled by the great response to the First Look Video we released this morning. Thank you all so very much!

Even though our account system/website isn't online yet, the number of email requests asking for the abililty to upgrade Backer levels has convinced Producer Brian to volunteer to process each request by hand. (We love you, Brian!)

If you would like to upgrade, please send Brian your current Backer status and the level you would like to be upgraded to (you can check your current backer status on the Kickstarter website). He'll coordinate with you about making the approprite PayPal payment. His email address is

The team definitely has a "spring in their step" this morning with all the positive feedback and constructive comments. They're smiling from ear to ear while keeping their noses to the grindstone.

      Hoi Chummers!

@Nilt, we actually have a HUGE amount of interaction from Mitch in the HBS Developers Q&A forum. It's set up on to make it easier and less time intensive (than the KS comments) for the devs to answer questions, and to allow the Paypal backers to engage too.

Please read the Rules post first, especially rule #1 (specific to the Q&A sub-forum only) and then join us in the rest of the Shadowrun Universe forum! ^_^

@Darren - Shadowrun Returns is also going to be released for Android Tablets & iPad. They're concerned the UI might not work well with handsets/smaller devices, but I think they're considering it due to TV-out and larger screen handsets being launched. We'll have to see what they can do in the time they have.

For anyone interested in the "disappearing bodies/no looting" issue, check this out:

      I hope this helps!

      Ja Mata!

      @Torment Fan

They're working on the game and have been pretty responsive to the fanbase so far. Your comment seems needlessly harsh.

I don't excpect a huge amount of engagement from the devs. They do, after all, have actual work to do. Fans offering polite suggestions is nice for them and all but, in reality, the business needs come first. s a business owner myself, I certainly understand that.

    3. Creator Darren Carlyle on March 14, 2013

In the Shadowrun rules, after the 'Never cut a deal with a dragon', the next rule should be 'Never feed a troll.'

Either way I'd love to back more, but my lunch money is already spent. Which I am happy to do to never be without Shadowrun. Awesome..

When the game is done, releasing a mobile version would be great too. Anything to pimp the product and get it into more hands.. More media time -> product out in the wild -> more sales -> more media -> Shadowrun Returns Again (v2) = More Shadowrun..

Dude, relax and chill out. We seriously don't need your negativity here.

      @ Harebrained Schemes LLC

If you look at the "Zombies, Run!" release on iOS, they had released two versions of the app. One for people to buy normally, and another that was free but that could only be "unlocked" by a special one-time password issued by email to every user that had paid for the game through other means. I'm not a tech guy, but I'm guessing it would work like an in-app purchase. Might be worth looking into if you're considering going the iTunes route.

    5. Creator Torment- The Enduring Exile on March 13, 2013

I appreciate you trying to discuss it with them but they're not spending time looking into delivering an .apk. They're spending their time giving interviews and coming up with plans for DLC like new character appearances.

It's not like they've taken any feedback so far and made changes. I don't expect that to change at all.

At least Inxile incorporated changes into WL2 from day one, and did an entire update discussing concerns people had with their alpha video.

    6. Creator Nilt on March 13, 2013

Responding to: "It's very challenging to coordinate properly with iTunes and GooglePlay to grant players 'free' access to something that has been paid for outside of their system which is one of the reasons we aren't offering a package deal. ( As you'd expect -- they really would like their cut of the sales.)"

I completely understand. As another person mentioned, though, on Android at least you can release the APK and allow folks to install it. Reference Humble Bundle and the Amazon App Store for such things. Now, I completely understand that the developers may be leery of releasing the app in such a fashion, but here's hoping.

No worries, though, as If it isn't included in any of the backer levels, I'll just look forward to giving them my money on the Play Store at some future date. It'll be worth every penny, regardless. :D

    7. Creator Nick Malone on March 13, 2013

      Hoi RC / HBS-LLC,

continuing on my earlier thought - you guys might want to take a look at the Humble Bundle model. they've done a number of Bundles that included a downloadable version of each game for computer platforms AND Android .apk that were offered as downloadables directly from them. in every case, these were games that were also available on the Google Play store - so if there are licensing issues, they got around them somehow. Again, they weren't able to do this for iOS, because iOS doesn't allow the user to install applications from sources other than iTunes without hacking, but they've sold hundreds of thousands of bundles to Android users!

personally I'm committed to upgrading my current PC or buying a new one just for this game if that's what it takes - but man, it'd be great if that wasn't what it took, you know?

    8. Creator RC on March 12, 2013

      Hoi Alonso!

Currently the Kickstarter rewards and pre-orders do not cover the tablet/mobile versions (iPad/Android). This is due to restrictive app store policies, though HBS is trying to figure out if they can work something out. They're aware of the .apk distribution option, but it may present other problems for them. When they figure out how it'll all "Play" out, they'll ahh...send out even more smoke signals! ^_^

      Ja Mata!

    9. Creator Alonso Rubio on March 12, 2013

If we want the PC version, the GooglePlay version, & the USB Dogtags, would it be possible to get the GooglePlay from my contribution of Kickstarter, and preorder the PC version with the USB (

      Are there better alternatives?

    10. Creator Harebrained Schemes LLC on March 12, 2013

      Hi, Dan -

Not exactly sure what you mean by "change things up."

Upper tier backers were contacted for information we needed to create their NPC and PC characters but we haven't started collecting information like tshirt sizes or Doc Wagon cards from anyone. That will start once the account database is up and running. We'll be sending up smoke signals as soon as that's available. Glad you liked the gameplay video.

If you're looking for more gameplay, Mitch and Jordan will be doing a live demo at Gamestop for Twitch TV this Thursday, March 14 at 11am PST. It will be the same level but they'll be doing it live.

    11. Creator Dan on March 12, 2013

Did I see/hear in a previous update that our customized backer rewards are on hold til we get close to real release basically because there is the opportunity to change things up? I saw the first update how the highest level backers were being contacted first (less of them, volume reason. Makes sense) and to be on the look out for an email about my own level. (Customer Doc Wagon card for example) And I just want to make sure I haven't missed the boat on that, I check every couple days, but wasn't seeing anything in either scenario. Just so much info to go through (that's a good thing).

Oh and I LOVED the gameplay video, so far it's looking like everything I've been imagining. Brian!!! Take more of my money!!!

    12. Creator Harebrained Schemes LLC on March 11, 2013

      Thanks for the two nuyen!

I'll pass it on to Brian who is handling all those issues.

    13. Creator Nick Malone on March 11, 2013

      dear HBS-LLC,

just a thought regarding at least the Android version of the game - once you've got the app completed and published as an .apk it's certainly possible to distribute that to backers outside of the Google Play store. Android allows users to install apps not obtained through Google Play very easily. with iOS, that kind of distribution would only work on jailbroken devices, though.

just the two nuyen of a backer who loves the hell out of his Nexus 7 tablet and would love the hell out of playing this game on it!

    14. Creator Harebrained Schemes LLC on March 11, 2013

      Matt -

We'd love to take your money! :) Yes, you can upgrade to the $500 level. Just send an email to Brian at

    15. Creator Harebrained Schemes LLC on March 11, 2013

      Hi, Nilt -

It's very challenging to coordinate properly with iTunes and GooglePlay to grant players 'free' access to something that has been paid for outside of their system which is one of the reasons we aren't offering a package deal. ( As you'd expect -- they really would like their cut of the sales.)

As for the differences, the desktop versions include the editor for creating your own Shadowrun stories, and the Tablet versions will not. There may be other differences that we figure out later on, when we're closer to shipping the game, but that's the one difference that we know for sure.

    16. Creator Shane Barnes on March 11, 2013

I love the way it looked. I would love to see more on what the Rigger will be able to do. Also when you Demo the Editor Im hopping it will be easy and quick enough for those of us to use that are not programmers and have very full lives. Wife and 6 kids does not leave me much time to put my ideas into the game. Please remember people like me when finishing the Editor and giving it to us

    17. Creator Jason E Brown on March 10, 2013

is there a possibility of playing a drake in future updates? I would love to create a campaign on a dragon trying to get his property back.

      Hoi Thamer!

As previously mentioned, I'm the forum moderator that banned your account. You've already voiced your disappointment about being banned from the forums here on Kickstarter. Your behavior on the forum was inappropriate, and for the record, you are the *only* member-ban I've set that was not a spam account. Even when I disagree with a chummer, I love this community and do not ban accounts lightly. I believe a single ban in over six months is a pretty good record, and I'm sorry there even had to be one.

I can only ask that you stop with the antagonism, and if you would like to discuss the issue further, you can contact me through rc --at-- shadowrun (dot) com. Please do not use a Hotmail account if you do, as they appear to get spam filtered by the hosting service. Thank you.

      Ja Mata!

    19. Creator Torment- The Enduring Exile on March 9, 2013

Your forums would be nice if your moderator didn't ban people outright the second they post any criticism.

It's very discouraging when you have a game that practically begs for community participation and a crazy fanboy doing the moderation.

    20. Creator Joseph Bettica on March 9, 2013

Haven't gotten a mail back, but can only imagine that's because the poor guy has to be getting SWAMPED. :D

    21. Creator Madevil on March 9, 2013

Brilliant! Hope my email gets through so I don't miss the upgrade window. You rock, Brian!

    22. Creator JM - Boorish Weresheep of Sin (deleted) on March 9, 2013

      @Brian Bierland

The way I would understand it is that you can only increase a pledge if you have already pledged..^^..and if you have already pledged (at KS time) then you'll be getting the Berlin campaign because it was one of our goals, every backer should be expecting it. However if you have not backed and instead are going to preorder then you will have to pay more for the Berlin campaign.

    23. Creator Matt Westlund on March 9, 2013

Hmm... is the $500 tier still unavailable?

    24. Creator Rob Gustafson on March 8, 2013

      Hey Harebrained guys and gals,

How about the next demo be about the editor kit? I'm excited about the idea of being able to make my own levels, and I'd like to know if it's possible to expand the level editor to make an entire town. Thanks! The game looks great, my money's been well-spent it seems!

    25. Creator Brian Bierlein on March 8, 2013

So I just noticed on harebrained schemes' pre-order page that only the special edition includes the Berlin DLC? If I pledged at a lower tier am I going to have to pay extra for the Berlin DLC when it's released? Because I was under the impression, based on it being a stretch goal, that it would be included in the main release.

    26. Creator Groghunter on March 8, 2013

I know you guys talked about it being hard to manage, but: I would instantly upgrade my pledge for a second copy for my android tablet. Food for thought.

    27. Creator Nilt on March 8, 2013

I rarely pre-order games and this is the only thing I have ever even considered funding on Kickstarter. This game sounded awesome enough to step outside that policy and now, with the first look video, it's clear I was right!

Since the initial drive to fund this, my computing platforms have changed somewhat, with less laptop going on and more Android tablet (Transformer Infinity TF700 ... beautiful screen!) with keyboard. I've seen references to Android tablets being supported, and this may have been answered elsewhere that my Google-Fu missed, but is there a backer level that gives us the game on Android as well as PCs, etc? If not, I'll probably hold off and order it there but I'm happy to give you my money sooner if there is!

    28. Creator Michael Kosmatka on March 8, 2013

Thank you for the update. A wonderful play session ... commentary almost as entertaining as the game itself! The best.

    29. Creator JM - Boorish Weresheep of Sin (deleted) on March 8, 2013

Nothing will be sent out til the game is ready to ship, so that everyone gets their game and goods at the same time.

    30. Creator Noe Ridgway on March 8, 2013

Oh, and the gameplay video was beautiful, by the way!

    31. Creator Noe Ridgway on March 8, 2013

Hopefully someone (backer or creator) can answer this question. I looked through the updates and didn't see anything on the t-shirts. When are they going out? I totally forgot about that section of the rewards and have been fairly busy with life, so I just want a double check that I haven't missed it (hopefully). Thanks!

    32. Creator Harebrained Schemes LLC on March 8, 2013

Hey, Everyone! Thanks for all the great feedback - we really appreciate. It's nice to know that our hard work shows in the video. It's been a crazy (great!) day!

A favor, though - Kickstarter isn't really set up so it's easy to answer specific gameplay questions and we really want to. If you go to the Shadowruncom Forums and ask your questions in the HBS Developer Q&A, Mitch is planning to answer questions later tonight. Please make sure to read the top post - Rules for Posting in the HBS Dev Q&A first. This is the direct link to the Shadowrun Returns forums.

The folks that are hanging out there aleady are really great and there are also other threads where you might be able to find new information that you'll find interesting.

      Thanks so much!

    33. Creator Kordanor on March 8, 2013

Will there be some special "scenes" in between? Like animated cutscenes, or a cool, slightly animated full screen picture of the scene when something special happens. Or will the game be "limited" to the "engine view" for the most part? I am talking about something like this:…

You also might consider putting a merchandise shop online instead or in addition to update the pledges. Probably easier to handle and maybe some space for new stuff like posters, a map, shirts or mugs. :)

    34. Creator Jack Green on March 8, 2013

Are you planning on making bodies persist and add some bloodsplatter? Cause the way it looks now don't jive with me. Even if the rest of the game seems sweet.

    35. Creator Ilias ThE RetrospecT on March 8, 2013

Do we know when the reward surveys will be sent out to the backers ?

    36. Creator Robert on March 8, 2013

Just sent my email, I wish I had the cash to throw 1000 and get in the game but I'll have to be happy with my t-shirts and a book! Take my money damnit!

    37. Creator JM - Boorish Weresheep of Sin (deleted) on March 8, 2013

Yep, just contact with current level and level you want to back to. I did, I doubled mine to $250.. the guys fully deserve it, the game has turned out far better that I think most of us expected.

    38. Creator JM - Boorish Weresheep of Sin (deleted) on March 8, 2013

I imagine we won't get the physical rewards until the actual game has been released.

    39. Creator Michael Mullins on March 8, 2013

If you guys have a "Make Jason Hardy work faster on 5th ed." addon I'll certainly buy that. Otherwise I think I'm good. Yeoman's job guys; it's good to see the FASA stuff get much deserved TLC.
