About this project

Hey Kickstarter community,
Thanks for checking out our project! Affectation has created garments that allow the wearer to customize their look. You can wear our shirt and change the collar and cuffs for a night out, or add a hood and no collar. Wear our vest and pick which lapels, or go without lapels. Buy a tie, and switch out tails to match or contrast the knot. We want you to surprise us and come up with combinations we haven’t even thought of!
We want the world to know who are supporters were from the very beginning, so for this campaign, we are making a limited edition Kickstarter collection for our supporters. All the garments will come in Kickstarter colors of green and charcoal grey. Affectation will never again make this color pallet and these garments will let everyone know you were there with us in the very beginning!
We need your help, so pledge some of your hard-earned cash, and receive your piece of the Kickstarter collection from Affectation.

Each item in the reward tiers will come in our limited edition Kickstarter collection colors – black and green (unless otherwise specified). For women, we will do a size run ranging from 2 to 14, and small medium and large for jackets. For the men, we will have small, medium, large and extra-large for both the jackets and t-shirts, and sizes 13/31-32 to 18/35-36 for the dress shirts. So, please let us know your size when ordering. If you aren't sure feel free to contact us and we will make sure you get a great fit!
If you choose a tier that comes with cuff, collar and hood choices, note the following:
1st collar & cuff set: black and green reversible
2nd collar & cuff set: grey and white reversible
3rd collar & cuff set: hound’s-tooth and red reversible
1st hood: Small size, sweatshirt material, green and black reversible
2nd hood: Large size, sweatshirt material, green and black reversible
3rd hood: Small size, cotton material, hound’s-tooth and red reversible
The zipper was patented in 1913, and since then, apparel closures haven’t seen much innovation. Magnetic closures allow for easier and more versatile changes and wear than existing buttons and zippers. The upgrade in closure also adds more value for the consumer, allowing for more wears and styles from each garment.
Will the magnets stay closed when I want them to?
We have taken great care to test for wardrobe malfunctions – we call it “spontaneous disrobing” And it will not happen! The magnets are strong enough to hold up to impromptu dance parties and Chicago winds and will not leave you disrobed in an uncomfortable situation.
Can I wash and dry the clothes normally?
Some fashion has become disposable, but at Affectation, we want to create your favorite garment – wear after wear. Every piece from Affectation can be machine washed and dried, as well as dry cleaned and ironed, and the magnets will not lose their attraction. A special coating makes the magnets waterproof, protecting them from loss of strength or corrosion.
Is $5,000 all the money you need to manufacture domestically?
If we reach our Kickstarter goal, we will continue to carry out our sample making in Chicago, and move forward with the mass manufacturing process in the US. Five grand won’t completely fund our entire line, but it will bring us closer to market by getting us quality, domestically made samples and letting us begin the mass production process.
Where and when will I be able to buy the line?
We will begin making samples, and subsequently manufacturing in the Midwest as soon as our Kickstarter campaign is successfully funded. The first Affectation line will be available for purchase through our new website in Q1 of 2013. However, the green and grey of the Kickstarter collection will never again be available from Affectation, so get yours now and let everyone know you were there from the beginning!
What about the airport?
At the airport these garments will go through the x-ray on the conveyor belt with no problems. They have some metal content so they will set off a metal detector, however, they are so easy to take on an off, just drop them in the bin as you would a jacket
Risks and challenges
The main hurdles of finding sample makers and manufacturers, design and fabrics have been jumped, but we need the support of all the Kickstarters to get the samples made and start selling these garments. So, be the first to support Affectation and get the exclusive debut collection today!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
