In a perfect world there would be no garbage and every country leader would be respected and loved by everyone but unfortunately that's not the world we live in yet.
The Trump Trash Can was designed as a creative statement to remind us that we are not powerless. More than a simple trash can, I believe it can be part of what symbolizes the freedom of expression our society has worked so hard to earn and still fights to preserve.
I'm making this kickstarter campaign to get the funds for the initial tooling and material supply to manufacture the first batch of the Trump Trash Can.
In the end, whatever happens next, if this project makes you smile or laugh it's already mission accomplished.
Although one couldn't be wrong by categorizing this trash can in product design. I believe it is closer to the work of art since the sole purpose of art is to make the observer think while the ultimate goal of design is to address such a compelling answer to the end user's needs that any unnecessary thinking is avoided. Art aims to make our mind grow while design aims to make it more efficient. Any designer can relate to the struggle of explaining they're not an artist but this time I accept the role, if you let me.

Risks and challenges
The main challenge remaining is design optimization. I'm working on the most efficient way to decompose the head part of the trash can so it can be disassembled and stored inside the can (body) for shipment efficiency.
That way it will fit in a smaller box which reduces carbon footprint and cost. The consumer will have to execute the final assembly the same way we are used to with IKEA furniture.
I'm leaning towards different options for the material in which will be made the head part. Chances are on (PU)polyurethane (same material as stress balls) for all the convenience it brings. In the case PU is not suitable my best option is a bio-polymer called UPM formi. I have already used and tested in injection molding this material on a previous project. It is made of wood cellulose and polypropylene. If you think you have a better polymer option I invite you to contact me: TrumpTrashCan (at) gmail (dot) com.
I made sure to use as much existing parts as possible to reduce the initial tooling development. All the parts of the Trump Trash Can, except the head, are standard parts that can be found in most conventional trash can which means that the only thing remaining to produce is the head. All the other parts will be sourced from existing companies.
I haven't decided which manufacturer to produce/buy the other parts yet but as an experienced and well connected industrial designer I am really confident to get everything on time or even sooner. Since this is technologically low, authorization and certification are nothing in compare of what I am used to in the hardware tech. industry.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
