About

Before & After (not to scale)
Before & After (not to scale)

Here's Kim at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk standing between a scene he painted last year (right) and the blank wall that's just begging for public art.  On this wall Kim and his wife Georgette propose installing a 5' x 25' refired glazed quarry tile mural which is frost proof and UV resistant --- pretty important on a Connecticut beach! The Norwalk Parks & Recreation Department is on-board along with the local Arts Commission which has agreed to cover installation costs.  And Tile America is donating materials!  Now it's your turn to be part of public art.  We're counting on this Kickstarter campaign to raise about 1/3 the total cost of the mural.

Wirth-Salander has been in the custom artisan tile business for about 20 years.  Their work has been recognized nationally on Oprah's "O" list and featured in Better Homes, House Beautiful, Beautiful Kitchens, and Family Circle magazines.

Above is one of Kim & Georgette's contributions to public art at the intersection of Marshall and South Main in SONO (South Norwalk, CT).   They also generously donated a tile installation in the lighthouse play area at Devon's Place, an accessible playground in Mathews Park near Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk.

You can also see Kim and Georgette's custom work at the Aitoro Appliance, Clarke Kitchens, and Front Row Kitchens showrooms in Norwalk as well as Longshore Sailing School in Westport.

Risks and challenges

Partnership projects involving organizations, city government, businesses and regular people are complicated. However most pieces of this project have already fallen into place: approved location, commitment of local arts commission, donation of materials and supplies. Besides, Kim and Georgette have a proven successful track record with similar public art installations at a local accessible playground and several murals throughout town. We're counting on this Kickstarter campaign to raise about 1/3 of the total cost of the project.
