Improvisation is anything but Whose Line is it Anyway? In fact, far from it. A glimpse into the popular comedy underground of LA.

About this project

****************Reward Clarification Addendum***************

A copy of the film (a $25 donation or higher) will include A TON of DVD extras. Including sit-down, formal interviews from: Matt Besser (UCB), Heather Campbell (Whose Line?), Matt Walsh (UCB), Dave Razowsky (Second City), Ian Roberts (UCB), Miles Stroth (The Family), Eric Appel (Funny or Die), Brian O'Connell (IO West), Becky Drysdale (Key and Peele), members of Convoy (popular LA improv team), J.D. Walsh (Battleground), Billy Merritt, Suzi Barrett, Bill Chott and more. 25 different interviews total with over 30 of the best improvisers there are.

The dvd extras will also include shows from Dasariski (Bob Dassie, Craig Cackowski, Rich Talarico), Heather and Miles (Heather Campbell, Miles Stroth), Zach Woods and Lennon Parham, Shakedown (Nick Mandernach, Toni Charline, Joel Jensen, Hector Santa Cruz, Rene Gube), The Smokes (Eugene Cordero, Joe Wengert, Billy Merritt, Tricia McAlpin, Brian Gallivan, Katie Dippold, Susannah Beckett), Tres (Frank Caeti, Ithamar Enriquez, Peter Grosz, Brad Morris, including special guest Lauren Ash), Becky Drysdale and Thomas Middleditch, Ben Rogers and Lennon Parham, Billy and Miles (Brian O'Connell, Miles Stroth), Convoy (Alex Berg, Todd Fasen, Alex Fernie), Dierkes and Fernie (Dominic Dierkes, Alex Fernie), Elephants Gerald (Suzi Barrett, Becky Drysdale) and a TON more of LA's best groups.

I have 160 hours of footage, and only about 80 minutes of that footage will be in the movie. Therefore, the INCREDIBLE amount of great 'A' footage I have will only be available through these dvd extras.

Essentially, if you are a fan of comedy, and you aren't familiar with this subculture of comedy (UCB, improv other than "short-form," etc), then you're probably not a true fan of comedy.

.....to no fault of your own! So....

Unless you live in LA and are close to it, then allow me to bring the underground comedy world of Los Angeles to you.

***********************************************************************

What you think improv is, is probably what it is not. Whose Line is it Anyway? is an extraordinary show, and has made the word "improv" into a household name. However, if you go to an LA improv show, you might be in for quite a surprise if Whose Line? is all you're familiar with.

Subversive, cool, experimental, absolutely nothing off-limits, daring, courageous, punk, unparalleled, these are some of the terms often used to describe the humor found at The Improv Space, The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, and the dozens of "indie shows" which are sprouting up all over town. These are the three theaters that I filmed at for an entire year, which the film is centered around: The grassroots Improv Space, the king of the hill Upright Citizens Brigade, and the underground as it gets "indie shows."

The reason I made this film is because there are no correct documentations of modern improv out there. Improv is either portrayed on film in one of two ways: (1) In this "hokey," generalized, kind of stereotyped manner. Very vanilla and predictable or (2) it's very inside baseball. Interesting for a comedian to watch, but may easily breeze over the head and attention-level of a non-improviser audience. Especially, too, there is no realistic documentation of the awesome culture behind it.

My goal is to accurately document to a general audience member and advanced improviser alike this very niche community and culture. Correctly encompassing all of the adjectives mentioned two paragraphs above. And to sum it all up, show how fucking cool it is. Making the audience laugh, making them genuinely attached to the characters followed throughout the year, getting swept up in the interesting comedy political system, and document hands down the best comedy in the world that's so underground, most people don't get to see it. More people should be familiar with this form of comedy other than just the people involved, and this documentary will give a chance for that to happen.

This film has took me 2 1/2 years to make, and if I reach my $15,000 goal, it should be done by this September.

EXACTLY WHERE THE DONATED MONEY WILL GO:

The $15,000 will go towards my post-production sound mixer, editor, color corrector, getting the film insured and licensing music. There's a countless number of other expenses that pop up each day and will continue to, but the $15,000 will cover the bulk and will be enough to ensure that this film gets finished.

I HAVE AN AMAZING POST-PRODUCTION TEAM:

Editor: Rob Schultzhttp://www.notart.org. Rob has worked on Kroll Show (Comedy Central), This Show Will Get You High (Comedy Central), and a number of other tv shows, feature films and shorts.

Colorist: Bossi Bakerhttp://vimeo.com/bossi. Bossi has colored numerous music videos (Major Lazer, Icona Pop, Jonas Brothers, Afrojack, Cloud Control), commercials (Disaronno, Banana Republic), documentaries, tv and film. Bossi's work is gorgeous, to say the least. His video resume above is well worth checking out.

Sound: Brent Kiser- http://unbridledsound.com. Brent is an Emmy Award® Winner for his sound work on Gettysburg (The History Channel). He is owner of the post-production company Unbridled Sound. He's worked on music videos (AVICII, Duck Sauce), a number of commercials, feature films, web series and shorts.

Risks and challenges

Once I get funded, I will be able to finish the film. The question is being able to get it into film festivals and sell it. Therefore, in order to complete this film, my only hindrance is the financial factor of $15,000. If my quoted insurance price goes up, that would be a problem. But, hopefully it wouldn't go up by an insane amount.

This film has taken me 2 1/2 years to make, and if I reach my $15,000 goal, it should be done by this September.
