Assimilation - Roleplaying Card Game
A card based party/RPG game. Use items and special skills to discover the evil drones in your midst before everyone is assimilated.
Assimilation is a party game which is a combination card-game and role-playing game. Players are given character cards that determine their roles and abilities within the game, and item cards which they can use while playing. Using skills, deduction and items, the players have to figure out the identities of the villainous drones in their midst and defeat them!
The core deck consists of 26 Character Cards and 26 Item cards. This is enough to run a game of up to 26 people
Gameplay is fairly simple.
For your game you will need one Moderator and at least 8 players.
The moderator will count the number of players in the game, and then choose that number of Character and Item cards, putting them into two decks. These are then shuffled and passed out, one character card and one item card for each player.
Character Card: This card determines your Role in the game as well as any Special Abilities you may have at your advantage.
Item Card: Items have various effects. Some are automatic, or triggered by certain in-game events, others can be used voluntarily at various points in the game. These can be used strategically to affect gameplay.
The gameplay takes place in two phases: Shutdown and Online
During Shutdown Phase: The moderator will prompt the Drones to 'wake up'. They will then get to choose a player to eliminate from the game.
Special Characters will be prompted to awaken one by one and will be allowed to use their special abilities. They will then go back to sleep.
Players will then have the ability to use any relevant items that aren't Online Phase specific, before Online Phase begins again.
During Online Phase: the Citizens awaken and begin to try and solve the mystery of who the Drones among them are.
The game goes on until all Drones are eliminated, or all Citizens are assimilated.
Assimilation is a game that we created originally as a promotional item at a gaming event we were running. It went over so well with the players that we started releasing it for sale. Now we'd like to be able to release it on an even wider scale so that more people can play the game, and for that we need to do a far bigger print run than we have previously.
This Kickstarter project will provide funding for a print run of 1000 decks, which will allow us to send the game to various gaming and comic stores, as well as offering it for sale online.
Our stretch goals will allow us to finish production and do print runs on two of the planned expansions for Assimilation, which backers at our $20 (or above) Level will then also receive with their pledge.
As for Kickstarter: it is an "all or nothing" group funding platform. People pledge toward a goal and if the project succeeds, they pay the pledged amount, if it fails, they pay nothing. There's no risk to the backers if the project doesn't succeed!
By backing our Kickstarter at various levels, you can choose rewards for yourself!
*$20 will net you a copy of the game (shipping included)
*$150 will get you copies of your very own Citizen Card, which you can put in your own game or give away to friends
*$250 will get you copies of your very own Special Character Card, which you can put in your own game or give away to friends
Want to try the game out for yourself before backing? We have a free printable Demo Deck version available online:
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk is simply not being able to print at the volume we need for distribution. The entirety of the funding for the Core Deck (aside from Kickstarter fees) is for printing the game and shipping to backers. The art is already complete and the game has been extensively play tested.
If we reach the Expansions and the New Art Stretch Goals, the art will take a short while to produce, which has already been accounted for in our release dates.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
