Millennium Restaurant is closing in its current location on May 1 after more than 20 years of business in San Francisco. Founding Chef/co-owner Eric Tucker and General Manager Alison Bagby have been working together for the past eight plus years and are opening a restaurant with the intention of keeping Millennium cuisine alive in the Bay Area and improving upon Millennium's dining room and location.
We are going to continue to do winemaker dinners, hands on cooking classes & special dinners (farmers' market, foraged mushroom, spirits, chile & beer dinners…). We will also have new events tailored to the new space & location. We feel fortunate to be able to continue working with the farms & purveyors that we have been working with for a long time and are excited to build new relationships in the East Bay.
We have found the perfect Rockridge location and getting in the door is very costly. The new spot will be extremely accessible--right next to Rockridge BART and close to the freeway. We have 30 days to secure this location and our plan is to open this summer. We have some investor backing already, we are putting in everything that we have personally and raising $50,000 will get us that much closer to being able to call this place home. It goes without saying but if we exceed our goal we will be grateful for every extra dollar!
We did not expect to get so far so fast! We still have a ways to go before April 1st and would love to keep this Kickstarter ball rolling for as long as you want to be involved! If we reach 100k, we will put the funds towards securing this fantastic location (it will mean less time we need to spend looking for investors, talking to banks, more time working on doing what we need to do to open as soon as possible!)...Getting into this space is expensive, and it is expensive because the previous tenant did so much amazing work on the space, it comes with a full liquor license and renovations are minimal (some signage, paint, an herb garden...). So this is why we felt like fighting for the space, putting all our beets in one basket--so that we could provide for you the best dining experience possible--so that the neighborhood and atmosphere are just as good as the service and the food. So please keep sharing our project and we will keep you updated on our progress!
If we reach 100k, we will host and invite all of our backers who pledged $150 and more to these two events:
1.A Sunny Sunday morning Cocktail Brunch "Open House" the Sunday before we open. Be the first to see the space and enjoy coffee, orange juice, pastries on our back patio!
2. A soft opening dinner before we open to the public! (You can bring a guest!!)
Risks and challenges
In moving from SF to the East Bay we hope to retain our staff and our SF clientele. Our new location will be easier to access from the North and South Bay and for SF residents we are a short BART ride or drive away!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
