Views of Life Times 12
The project involves creating 12 large oil paintings, each about 4' x 7' feet, and dealing humorously and critically with American life
The project involves the creation of 12 large oil paintings. Each will be aproximately 4 feet by 7 feet. The subject matter is based on American life. Each will be uniquely original, thought provoking, and humorous. The time frame for the completion of all 12 paintings is 2 years. Backers rewards will be available at that time, early in 2014.
Up to 3 backers funding with $10,000 will be able to chose one of the paintings on a first come first serve basis as a reward for backing the project.
Currently (March 2012) I have completed 2 of the 12 large paintings and the 3rd is under way. The first finished painting is "The Irreverent Rapture":
It can be seen as a larger image here . It illustrates the Rapture but in the opposite -- sinners rise into the heavens and the pious remain on the Earth.
The 2nd is called "A Short History of Humanity from Beginning to the End,"
A larger image can be viewed here.
The 3rd, for which the compositional drawing has been finished is called"Water." Below is the drawing.
A larger image of the drawing can be viewed here.
This is an update on the painting of "Water." A detail of the glacier:
Future titles are "Custer's Last Stand," about the arrogance of a man who led around 180 people to their unnecessary deaths. "The History of Medicine." "Moonshine and Prohibition." "September 11, 2001." "The God Particle." "Creationism and Evolution." "War and the Art of Duck Hunting." "The Farm," based on a farm from my youth. "The Ku Klux Klan meets the Taliban."
I work in my studio in Carbondale, Colorado. The money from my backers is for materials and studio rental for the 2 years it will take to finish all 12 paintings, each being roughly 4' x 6-7'. If you happen to be in the Roaring Fork Valley, Carbondale is about 30 minutes down valley from Aspen, Colorado. Stop by the studio at 449 Main Street, in Carbondale and have a look at the project's progress.
