About this project
Help us tell a unique science fiction story that asks fundamental questions about our relationship with technology.
Let Go is a collaboration between Jon Perry and Ted Kupper of the Review the Future podcast and comics artist Cecilia Latella. We've already completed the first 16 pages, but we need your support to finish the book.
New technologies are constantly appearing around us, and yet most science fiction presents a static vision of the future. With Let Go we want to show a dynamic future - what it feels like to live through multiple technological changes.
Although filled with exciting technologies, Let Go is primarily about characters. It explores the strange and often humorous situations that arise when the desires of an ordinary family collide with radical new technology.
Let Go contains multiple time jumps. Whenever the story jumps forward, new technologies appear for the family to deal with.
At first the world is similar to our own. But with each time jump, the technologies get stranger and more powerful. By the end of the book, the world is no longer recognizable.
All the money we raise will go towards paying our artist Cecilia Latella to produce more beautiful illustrations. While $4500 won’t cover 100% of our expenses, it will give us the financial bump we need to make this comic a reality.
The entire script is written, and we’ve already completed art for the first 16 pages. We estimate the book will be 100 pages when it's done.
You can read the beginning of the book for yourself by clicking the link below. (Lettering and graphic design will change for the final version.)
Remember, these pages are from the beginning of the story, when the tech is still similar to today. As the story progresses, things are going to get a lot weirder.
Here are three pages from a climactic later scene, which we produced to showcase some of the story's more science fictional elements:
In addition to the printed and digital books, we have the following items to offer our backers.
Jon Perry and Ted Kupper are long time writing partners, obsessive futurists, and co-hosts of the Review the Future podcast, a show that takes an in-depth look at the impact of technology on culture. They found artist Cecilia Latella via an exhaustive online talent search involving over 75 applicants. You can see more of Cecilia's comics work here.
Risks and challenges
Production of the first 16 pages has gone extremely smoothly, and we do not foresee any problems finishing the book. However, good work takes time, and it is hard to predict with certainty when the book will be complete. (We're aiming for May 2016.) Although the story is already written, the illustration process inevitably leads to changes and modifications. In light of this uncertainty, we pledge to keep all of our backers up to date at all times on the progress of the book so that everyone is fully informed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
