Check out our great review on Apartment Therapy!
We are three partners committed to bringing this simple and useful product to life:
KERMIT WESTERGAARD (Co-Inventor & Business Development) and
AZADEH HOUSHYAR WESTERGAARD (Creative Direction & Branding): The couple with the longest name in the world are founders of Made By Two LLC, a multidisciplinary design studio that designs restaurants, cafes, and private residences.
ANTHONY COLEMAN (Product Development & Design): A business manager with a background in business and product development.
Two old high school friends, Kermit Westergaard (an architectural & industrial designer) and Anna Winger (a photographer & novelist), got together to solve a problem. Anna wanted a discreet way to display her photography projects in her small home office. They decided on a thin white steel strip that could be mounted flush to her walls, creating a large display area where she could hang photos magnetically when needed, yet disappear into the room when not being used.
The concept evolved into a steel strip backed with a removable adhesive that was so thin it could be rolled up into a dispenser and snapped to any length. Packaged with powerful magnets, it would make for an elegant and simple solution to an age-old problem—something they imagined would be extremely useful to many people in many situations. Realizing they had a product in the idea, Kermit and Anna went on to patent Dartstrip as co-inventors.
We are so close to bringing Dartstrip to life—we just need to make one final push to complete the final phase of manufacturing. As a project backer, your pledge funds will go towards our first production run and will allow us to meet the minimum order quantities set by our manufacturer.
Please help us spread the word by sharing our project via email, Facebook, and Twitter. Just click the FACEBOOK & TWITTER BUTTONS below the Kickstarter video to share the campaign link on your social media networks. We appreciate your help spreading the word!
We are excited to be manufacturing Dartstrip right here in the U.S.A. from U.S. made materials with some imported parts.

Thank you to our backers for your support and for sharing the campaign!
Special thanks to Anna Winger for co-inventing Dartstrip — it simply wouldn’t exist without her (nor would the product name without the presence of her husband, Joerg, at a brainstorming session in a particularly pretty spot on the coast of Maine).
We are grateful to our friends and family who patiently tested, counseled and opined on the various incarnations of Dartstrip as the prototype was refined. We had a spectacular time shooting our Kickstarter video and are thankful for our colorful cast of friends, family and photogenic volunteers who were recruited straight from the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn: Kristen Aronsson, Laureano Batista, Irina Belkovskaya, Christian Carroll, Sal Crifasi, Kiyoumars Hooshiar, Alex Howe, Sarah & Aminah Ibrahim, Essie Jain, Michael Lennicx, Sabrina Little, Donatella Madrigal, Thomas Simpfendoerfer, Elena and Matilde Swartz, Daisy Walker & Teru Uchiyama from Metrosonic Studios both for facilitating the studio rental and for graciously stepping in as a grip in a moment of need.
Allison Coleman & Annabel Coleman for their insightful & thoughtful feedback throughout product development; the Hooshiar Family (Kiyoumars, Farideh, Joubin & Azita) for their generous culinary & child wrangling support; cousin extraordinaire, Katie Frank, for her social media tutelage and overall wonderfulness; Christian Carroll, our talented and photogenic camera man; the generous and resourceful Shaylin Clay for behind the scenes research; and Azul Ceballos for saving the day.
And last, but certainly not least, thank you Preston… for being Preston. We are compiling your many life wisdoms into a book which may become the subject of our second Kickstarter campaign.
Risks and challenges
We are confident that we’ve addressed and worked through the risks that can arise during the manufacturing process. We have already overcome our two biggest challenges: developing an adhesive that removes cleanly without residue, but has the requisite tack to hold up anything one might want to display (you can’t imagine how much time has gone into adhesive testing); and building a machine from scratch to manufacture the strip (it is a more complex machine than you might imagine).
We have a fully functioning prototype. All product components have been sourced. The tin packaging has been designed and printed. The magnets have been shipped. We're making the final tweaks to our manufacturing machine before production.
Our realistic goal is to have finished product ready to ship prior to December 16th. This will be Dartstrip’s first production run and there may be unanticipated delays, so we are conservatively estimating a shipping window of mid-December to mid-January. We will do our best to ship to our 1st Batch backers in time for the holidays, and will keep you posted during the campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Our foam adhesive backing has sufficient tack to hold the strip firmly to the wall, yet removes cleanly from most wall surfaces without leaving adhesive residue, even after extended periods of time. We knew that the right adhesive was essential to the success of the product, and opted for a very high quality removable adhesive. While we recommend testing the product in a discreet location prior to use, we have found that on most painted walls, the adhesive removes without scratching, marring or peeling the painted surface in any way, and we've never experienced any kind of sticky residue whatsoever. The strip has quite a lot of surface area, so even a low-tack adhesive (as is ours) provides sufficient tack for larger posters, drawings, plans, etc. Please read the directions on the back of the tin for the removal instructions.
We're not selling Dartstrip as a reusable product since the ability to reuse it depends a lot on the initial surface it's adhered to (dusty, oily, etc.). That said, we have found that in most situations it can be removed and re-adhered several times (even after extended periods) before losing the requisite tack to function well. This also means if you're putting it up, and don't quite get it right, it's generally not a problem to reposition the strip a second or third time.
The video was directed by Azadeh, edited by Kermit, and produced by Azadeh, Kermit and Anthony. Christian Carroll was our truly talented camera man — and was a total pleasure to work with!
If you want to purchase multiples, you can simply increase your pledge value. e.g. if you want 3 Early Adopter Dartstrip with Disc Tins, you would pledge $60 (3x$20). For International Shipping, please add $20 for up to 2 tins, and $10 per tin thereafter. For Canada, please add $10 for up to 2 tins, and $5 per tin thereafter. Thanks!
Darstrip is a steel coil, and as a result it's quite heavy. We've based our international shipping rates on quotes we've received to fulfill those orders. Note that if you pledge for two tins, the international shipping is the same cost as for one tin, so it becomes a much more reasonable additional cost on a per tin basis (perhaps you want two — would like to gift one, or know someone else who would want one?). For more than 2 tins, please add $10 per tin (e.g. 4 tins would be $40 total, $20 for the first two, and $10 per tin thereafter). We wish there was a more affordable way to ship internationally, but given the weight of the product, it is not presently possible.
Yes! We have two options for refill packs: 8 Feet of strip for $15 and 16 Feet of strip for $25. Note: the refill packs do not include any magnets or tins.
The 16 Foot refill pack will allow you to refill your tin twice, or offer you the ability to put up a huge, seamless display area up to 16 feet long—perfect for larger walls, studios, galleries, hallways, etc.
If you’ve already pledged and would like TO ADD A REFILL PACK, just add the dollar amount of the refill pack/s you want to your existing pledge tier.
For example—if you are US based backer and purchased a Dartstrip with Discs for $25 and want an 8 Foot Refill Pack, please change your pledge amount to $40 and note that you would like the Refill Pack when we send you the Backer Survey after the campaign ends.
If you are a new backer, you can do the same thing - pledge for the Dartstrip tin with your choice of magnets and add the additional amount required for the Refill Pack of your choice.
