A six-day chamber music celebration in ALASKA, filled with concerts, workshops, rehearsals, lessons, coachings, and masterclasses
Hello, and welcome! Here are the details of our project.
About THE PROJECT
The project is the festival, which begins August 12th and ends August 17th. It includes an intensive chamber music program for beginner to advanced string and piano players in Alaska. Everyday, participants will rehearse together and receive coachings, lessons, and masterclasses from the faculty. There will also be a series of chamber music concerts for the students and the Anchorage community (see schedule below). Our guest artists, the Scott Chamber Players, who are professional chamber musicians with over thirty years of experience, will be performing and giving a masterclass during the week.

About CHAMBER MUSIC
Chamber music is when a number of musicians collaborate with one another to create music and convey a unified message together. Unlike an orchestra, where there is a conductor and 40 musicians, there are about 2-8 musicians involved in a chamber group, and each person is responsible for their own part.
Great chamber music is achieved when each musician has their own strong ideas and the confidence to express those ideas, and at the same time are open minded to other ideas. Each player must see and aim for their group's common goal, which is to make great music together. In order to realize this successfully, they must respect and always have empathy for one another.
In chamber music, people can learn the importance of teamwork and leadership skills through rehearsals, masterclasses, performances. etc. and apply what they have learned to their everyday life.
OUR GOALS in August
We want to convey what we have learned so far on our musical journey to anyone and everyone, especially the younger generation, who are the future of classical music. The audience for classical music has steadily been decreasing. We, as classical musicians, don't want to see this beautiful art form diminish and disappear.
We hope to inspire people to enjoy classical music through playing, listening, and attending concerts. We want to spread the joy of playing chamber music. We want people to be fired up about Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Brahms. We are extremely passionate about this, because we believe that classical music can change people's lives.
So we're reaching all the way out to the northern-most state of our country, Alaska, to spread our message. Some perceive Alaska to be barren land with nothing but igloos, glaciers and snow, but there are actually many young musicians here who are looking for opportunities to play their instruments. However, it can be difficult to travel far to attend a music festival. Therefore, we're bringing this experience here. We want Anchorage to be the home of a great chamber music festival. The five of us are dedicated to nourishing the talents of the Chamber Intensive participants. We hope that they will grow and learn a lot from the festival week-- We know we will as well.
Products of the festival:
Along with unforgettable experiences, at the end of our project we will have:
- Sound and video recordings of our live concerts
- A short documentary of our festival
- A magazine-style photo book compiled by our photographer friend, Peter Shin. This includes background information about the five of us and also the story behind the festival.
All five of us, the Chamber Intensive faculty, recently graduated from the University of Michigan with music degrees. We've all worked with one another at some point during our time at U of M. Chamber music is one of Christine H Li's many passions, Nathaniel Pierce and Alan Tilley are pursuing professional chamber music careers, and Cole Anderson and Siyuan Li both have Chamber Music Performance degrees. For more detailed information about us, you can visit this website: Anchorage Chamber Music Festival Faculty

What we've done so far:
Starting in January, we applied for several grants to make this festival possible, but weren't able to receive any this year. It is very difficult to start from scratch. Therefore, we began fundraising and have raised a total of $2019.08. We have made the Chamber Intensive tuition low enough so most people can afford to attend, and we are even offering financial aid. We will receive about $1,725 from the application and tuition fees.
Total amount reached so far: $3,744.08
But we still need YOUR HELP
Total amount necessary to reach our goal: $804.92
We have had many generous donations, but to reach our goal we need your help. Every cent raised here will be used towards our project. If there is any left over, we will donate it to the Anchorage Fine Arts Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which is supporting our project.
***Special thanks to photographers Willie Dalton and Peter Shin for their contributions to our project :) ***
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
If we do not reach our funding goal, we would persevere and do whatever we can to make sure that the festival happens!
1. Although we will do our best to make sure that each of our concerts are recorded, sometimes cameras and microphones fail to record. If this happens, we may not have one or more recordings to send you.
2. There is a very small risk of losing photographs if a camera malfunctions.
