Hop Stuff Brewery is a SE London Brewery, offering a new take on "traditional ales", serving our local London community and beyond.
Have you ever walked into a pub, and been instantly disappointed by the standard offering of Peroni, Stella, Carling & Fosters? Maybe you turn to the hand pump, but all you're offered there is a "Traditional ale"? Then you're like us at Hop Stuff. Bored of the standard, and just after a really interesting pint of something a little different?
At Hop Stuff we think that the stigma around "Real Ale" is misplaced: With the right treatment, and a refreshed approach to making beer, we can create beers more refreshing than Lager on a hot day & better session beers for long Saturday's with your mates.
The London Brewery scene is booming, yet SE London seems to be lacking when compared to East / SW / North London. We hope to change this, and develop a business / beers that are instant hits. The more we're able to raise to fund experimentation and additional equipment, the quicker we can be in a pub near you!
Having successfully raised £58,300, we're now in the process of setting up the brewery in the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich for commercial production. We want to continue spreading the word about our exciting project, and offer fans of Hop Stuff the opportunity to get involved (and get their hands on some merchandise as well) in helping to fund the development of our commemorative brew.
During the set up, we have refined the recipes for 2 beers; our "flagship" Renegade IPA - a hoppy, citrus 5.5% beer, packed full of refreshing IPA flavours, and a slightly lower ABV session pale ale, but at the same time maintaining the character of Renegade.
To celebrate our location and reflect the Autumn opening of the brewery, we want to develop a Gunners Porter - a dark stout named after our home in the Royal Arsenal, an old munitions factory, and the original home of Arsenal FC.
Ever fancied a Brewery tour for you and your mates? What about a private party? Maybe even a Brewery to turn up at your Summer BBQ? Or, what about just getting your hands on a T-Shirt?
So... are you Hop Stuff?
Primary Target: £3,000
The £3,000 raised through KickStarter will fund the development of our Gunners Porter, ready for launch in October.
£5,000 allow us to experiment with other recipes and we have a caramalt brown ale in mind. We will also be able to be a little more creative with the packaging of our Gunners Porter (we're dreaming of something cannon inspired!).
If we reach £10,000 it would allow us to add an additional fermentation vessel & extra equipment to our brewery, allowing us to produce more beer for you all to enjoy!
Risks and challenges
Hop Stuff is in the fortunate position where we've already received a fantastic amount of support, having raised £58,300 & we're confident we can create a brilliant new business. However, there are of course risks with setting up a new company.
1. Crowded Market - Craft beer / Real Ale Breweries are everywhere now, and over the past 18 months, we've seen a lot opening in and around London. That said, SE London, particularly Woolwich and Greenwich is under supplied, providing us an automatic home field advantage.
2. Sales - With over 7,000 pubs in Greater London there are plenty around, but how do we ensure we can sell into them? We've been speaking to several local pubs, restaurant chains, bars and several further afield to spread the word nice and early, we already have so much demand, we just don't have the Brewery (yet).
3. Growth - We need a clear growth strategy, and we've already got a good few ideas about how to do this. We've already identified several pub groups that have expressed an interest in Hop Stuff. We've also already been approached about exporting some of our beer based on the strength of the brand alone.
So, there we go - There are risks with brewing, but we're so excited and comforted by the amount of support we've already had on Twitter / Facebook and other platforms, that we are confident that we're going to succeed!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
