The Octopus Bar is on a mission to enhance Seattle's identity and become a treasured landmark!
The Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle is a vibrant and thriving district that encourages unique dining, drinking and shopping experiences. It is the goal of The Octopus Bar to enhance the neighborhood’s identity offering a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, community feel and exceptional neighborhood bar.
WE NEED MORE FUNDING TO MAKE THIS A REALITY!
All of the money raised from this Kickstarter campaign will go directly towards finishing materials to develop the vision of The Octopus Bar. Remember, with Kickstarter, it's all or nothing. We will be collecting mostly salvaged materials as well as recycled materials, and re-purposing unique finds... this all takes time and money... Your support will go a very long way to put the finishing touches on this treasure hunt...
THE OCTOPUS VOYAGE
Our concept reaches deep into Seattle’s origins as a port city developed by courageous individuals with strong work ethic and Seattle has always exhibited a spirit of optimism, enterprise and self-promotion.
Eclectically and beautifully outfitted, The Octopus Bar location in Wallingford, a cozy neighborhood tucked on the northern tip of Lake Union, will present endless architectural details and nooks to weave onlookers gaze. Above, a scattering of wood planks rest to visually separate the allusion of upper decks, boat bottoms and salvaged ship sides. Recycled crab cages and netting full of treasures such as Japanese fishing floats, bottles with SOS letters, ocean aged and discarded catches will be hung as if they had just been hauled onto the deck. Hung by ropes and pulleys, wood planks support various lighting solutions.
Distinctive lighting will showcase and sell our thoughtfully planned brews, signature beverages and richly flavored dishes produced by our chefs. Pair the food with an Octopus specialty cocktail and good company to set sail for an ineffably perfect voyage.
With all of this in mind, our vision is to draw a variety of patrons that are all in search of the same thing:
- A unique, hideaway serving high-quality food and beverages during lunch, afternoons, dinner, and late evenings
- A local bar that introduces new friends and endless conversations
- A safe and welcoming atmosphere that many could call their second “home”
MEET THE CAPTAINS OF THE SHIP
Taryn is a former gypsy/traveling student who has finally settled back in Seattle. She’s brilliant, beautiful, and one of the friendliest bartenders you’ll ever meet!
Looking for Taryn around Seattle? Taryn loves to read so send her a #Hashtag message and she’ll meet you anywhere – actually she hates those, BUT, with years of retail and restaurant experience, Taryn is a hoot both behind the bar and as a fellow bar fish drinking her vodka/soda.
Liza Danger is one of those jack-of-all-trades: graphic designer, bar/restaurant designer, bartender, bar manager, artist, etc… she can and has done anything she puts her mind to.
Looking for Liza around Seattle? Well chances are she’s running around finishing one of those projects, catching up with an old friend she hasn’t seen or worked with in years, or getting another tattoo to commemorate a days success.
Trevor is another friendly spirit both in the bar and around town – wink, wink! He worked for years at an antique auction house in SoDo and is passionate about restaurant and interior design.
Looking for Trevor around Seattle? Look no further than Facebook because he doesn’t know where he is most days while he’s searching for more Octopus inspiration, bartending across town, or serving a 21 year old their (first?) shot.
WHERE ARE WE ON OUR EXPEDITION?
The Octopus Bar is starting to come together and we aim for a December opening. We have signed the lease, started some construction and this is where you come in…
The Octopus Bar will have the aesthetic of a ship wrecked among many in a ships graveyard. More than a philosophy, we will embody and draw attention to the physical location with the interior styling’s resembling the skeletons of ships - solidifying The Octopus as a memorable Seattle landmark.

Risks and challenges
• Construction delays
• Permit delays
• Rain delays
• and all the unforeseeable obstacles
The Octopus Bar has been a three year project of planning, budgeting, spending, networking, marketing and making educated choices on what will deliver our success from concept to execution and through expansion. We have learned to embrace these risks, challenges, setbacks, losses, lessons and will do everything within our power to open in December 2013. We welcome risks and challenges because without them, we wouldn't have found this wonderful Wallingford location.
