A Season of The Spiel funds special game related film projects
We just released our first documentary Made for Play: Board Games & Modern Industry.
Your support helps fund future projects like this.
Building on the success of the first documentary we have two film/video projects coming up. Here are some of the details about them!
First, the BIG project. This will be a documentary that will take a few years to complete because of its scope and ambition. In Made for Play, we look at the world of games from a manufacturing perspective - delving into all the physical aspects of the games we love. Our next film will focus on the process of game design. We will work in concert with at least 3 noted game designers from around the world and follow the evolution, development, publication and reception of a game from each designer. Each designer will have a chance to explain his/her design philosophy and then show us those ideas in action as we see the concepts of games take shape through each step of the process. Games start in the minds of designers and we'll give you a chance to peek inside some of the great creative minds of this era. By following the journey of several games and several designers, we hope to show how many different paths there are to the same goal: creating fun for players at the table. We don't have designer names to announce... yet! But when we do, you will be excited and you'll also be the first to know. This is a crazy ambitious project, but I can't wait to jump in and see where this film takes us!
Second, we will be launching a smaller ongoing video series. Filming will take place as part of our travels to Europe this Fall. This series will focus on the state of games in a particular country - game publishers, game designers, regional or local classic or historical games that are unique or popular in a specific area of the world. The concept is to showcase the state of games in a particular state or country or region. We have an opportunity to travel to Belgium to film interviews with several game designers and publishers, to attend some gaming events and game shops, to tour a game archive at a university and see another game manufacturing facility, Cartamundi. Think of this series as a sort of travelogue for gamers and you get the idea. Each part of the world has players and ways of having fun and we'd like to give you a look into as many of them as we can.
Our ambitions are limited only by our budget and this Kickstarter project can help us dream bigger and better with each film and video we produce. We want to meet and hopefully exceed our initial funding goal so we can bring you more game related films like these. The more people who back us and the more money we are able to raise, the more amazing films we'll be able to make. YOU have the power to make this happen.
Audio Video and Film. If you invest in The Spiel, you’ll receive hours of enjoyment for your ears, your eyes and yes sometimes even your brain!
We need your investment because we invest an enormous amount of time, effort and creativity into every aspect of The Spiel. Every episode represents dozens of hours of preparing, researching, recording, writing and editing. Video and film production require even more time and and even more involved set of skills.
As a digital media company, The Spiel operates on a much lower budget than traditional media outlets, but there are still many significant costs for us to provide quality programming on a regular schedule.
A snapshot look at our production costs include hosting fees, media servers, studio, recording, and camera equipment, computers and software, shipping and office expenses, game purchases and travel. We need your backing to balance these costs with the time and effort it takes to produce the next season of shows.
Invest in the The Spiel and we’ll provide another season of quality independent media coverage of the game playing world - from brain busting modern strategy games to casual, kids, and party games and everything in between.
Invest in The Spiel, and you fund a unique voice in the game industry. We are CHAMPIONS OF FUN first and forever. And your support helps us bring more fun to kitchen tables around the world.
