Ever dreamt of becoming a jouster but then realized at the last second that you don’t own a horse? Well, here we come to the rescue! Jousting Time is an online multiplayer VR jousting game that everyone can enjoy! The game showcases VR players fighting intense duels with interactive community spectating features for non-VR players.
Jousting Time gives users two genuinely unique experiences to enjoy, fighting and spectating! In the Arena, VR Jousters will have to choose the right weapons to fight their opponents and try to decapitate them. Each weapon functions differently, and learning how to use them effectively will make you either a glorious jouster or a headless horseman!
But, as a VR centric company, we also understand that not everyone owns a VR headset and we really wanted this game to be enjoyable for everyone. That is why the game’s design is also focused on making the spectator’s experience fun! Whether you want to cheer for your favorite jousters or throw medieval popcorn at them, you can easily enter the arena’s stands via the spectator web client! We also plan to integrate community functions for Twitch streamers and viewers at launch.
So it doesn’t matter whether you want to enjoy a good jousting match in the center of the arena or from the comfort of your couch, Jousting Time brings everyone to the party!
Fight online for fame and glory in the arena! Learn to read your opponent’s moves, to hit the right spot and dodge incoming attacks in order to survive and thrive as a jouster! We strongly believe that the possibilities offered by virtual reality and eSports are a combination worth exploring, which is why we want YOU to join us in this endeavour!
We even have voice acted joustcasters with hundreds of different lines of dialogue, you can listen to an example here:
Don't own a VR headset? Who cares!? The game allows spectators to directly interact with the arena as a virtual character in the crowd.
Vote for which weapons you would like jousters to use, send emotes to show your happiness or miscontent and bet on your favorite jouster to earn in-game coins which you can use to buy new reactions!
The Feast is a hubworld where jousters hang out between games. There, you can rest after a hard day of jousting or challenge anyone who looks at you the wrong way!
In the Feast, you get to meet other jousters and communicate with them. It serves as an interactive home menu, where you will be able to launch jousting matches and play some integrated minigames!
Our controls are simple and responsive! Control your horse with the left hand, manoeuvre your weapon with the right and gain speed by yelling at your horse through the VR headset! Knowing the specifics of each weapon and gauging your opponent's speed versus your own will determine who will win in the arena!
Players will get to choose between 6 weapons, each handled differently. While anybody can jump into battle right away, those who take the time to master their craft will certainly be rewarded... by keeping their head!
The spectator client will be available for PC and Mac at launch. We have plans to also launch on PlayStation VR after first delivering the desktop versions if funding allows it.
You might be wondering who Trebuchet is and what we do! While mostly being a way better weapon than catapults, our studio is also a group of passionate developers that love to create innovative experiences for our players!
We are the team behind the game Prison Boss VR, a cartoony contraband simulator that uses room-scale to turn your playspace into your own customizable prison cell! (Get the game for free by pledging 20+ CA$ !)
Our team has won multiple prizes in game jams, was finalist in the Ubisoft Indie Series 2018 and recently won the Microsoft Dream.Build.Play. challenge's Mixed Reality category!
The current version of the game was built to show a vertical slice of what the game would look like once finished. Our demo is actually at a polished enough state where people who are present at PAX East (right now!) can experience the jousting experience! As of today, the Feast, our virtual hub, is not quite ready yet and the game is not yet integrated in online stores.
In terms of gameplay aspects, the game is pretty much ready. It still needs some larger scale testing to optimally balance the game, hence the Kickstarter campaign! By helping us, you will come at a moment in our development where we need the support of a community in order to keep progressing in the right direction!
The game makes use of well-proven technologies, widespread in the industry :
We've built a solid demo, we've tested it internally and have had many jousting tournaments at parties already and the reaction has been extremely positive! We are now ready to turn all of our work into a full fledged multiplayer experience with your help!
The game has had the time to be tested at multiple occasions with various audiences at a local level here in Quebec and we felt the project reached the moment where it needed to be visible to players around the world.
Jousting Time needs the valuable feedback of a strong community of players and spectators to thrive and provide the best possible experience. We know Kickstarter is the perfect place to create this community in the hopes of building upon it as the development of Jousting Time advances in time!
We've also got a ton of fun ideas that we've shelved for lack of funds, so if we manage to hit our objective, we would love to take them off the shelf and put them here as stretch goals!
Here is a roadmap to sum up the past and current milestones of the project :
Jousting Time's current game development state proves the feasibility of the project and the players' positive reactions lets us know we've got a solid game on our hands! We have already put tons of our time, energy and resources into the game, and we feel it is the right moment to include new players into the development process so we can grow the game together!
We are really enthusiastic at the idea of sharing this adventure with all of our backers and with your help, we know we can make Jousting Time an amazing game that can withstand the test of time!
We are really thankful for what the Kickstarter community is able to make happen. We are thrilled to share with everyone our project, which we put a lot of passion and (very) long days of work to make it in time for PAX East.
Our game was primarily thought with players in mind, we want it to be a truly unique experience testing new horizons of virtual reality powered game design.
To everyone taking the time to check out our project and helping the game become a reality : THANK YOU !
Risks and challenges
As any other software development project, there are risks and challenges involved related to the multi-layered nature of such productions. That being said, this isn't our first rodeo! We are a team of professionals who've previously worked on successful projects together, using well-proven technology, so the risks are minimal!
We also already have a playable version with the core loop implemented that we are showing publicly in events such as PAX East. The game now needs networking and community features as well as some additional polish to reach the heights we know we can achieve.
At this point, we are focusing on gathering players around the game, and concentrating our development efforts on building content, improving the user experience and balancing the different gameplay elements.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
