About

The great divide. Two opposing factions with conflicting values. Each convinced it is right. Both rigid, unyielding.

Of course, I’m talking about discriminating individuals who have a passionate preference for either pie or cake.

You know who you are.

I’ve drawn pictures of these two groups taking their passion to the streets. This Kickstarter project is about producing limited-edition letterpress prints to celebrate these two proud communities.

******

But that’s not all. As a bonus, sponsors will also receive a third, smaller print depicting the less numerous group that has a passion for veggies.

Bonus print: Broccoli (3.5" x 5")

Fine art. Sponsors will get three letterpress prints in rich black on heavy sheets of Crane’s Lettra white—an acid-free, 100 percent cotton, 300 gsm sheet. All the images will be lovingly bumped into the paper’s surface by master printer, Bryce Knudson of Bjørn Press. The pie and cake images will be delivered in an 11" x 14" bevel-cut mat—ready for framing. The broccoli image is smaller and will arrive in an 8" x 10" bevel-cut mat.

Prints arrive matted and ready to fit into standard-size frames.

It’s a limited-edition print. There will only be 300 impressions of each image then the printing plates will be destroyed forever. I’ll sign and number each copy and include a grandiose certificate of authenticity with each print to document its pedigree.

Fancy certificates of authenticity will explain the origins of these prints to clueless, future generations.

Obviously, these prints make perfect gifts. Think about who you might want to afflict with a gift:

• Any supporter of pie, cake, or cruciferous vegetables.

• A whiz in the kitchen.

• Anyone who needs more pizzazz in his or her art collection.

• Someone who enjoys Don’s artwork.

SCHEDULE

When will you receive your rewards? I feel safe promising the end of September. There’s a lot of printing, inspecting, signing, mat cutting, and packing to do once the project closes. I’ll push to make it sooner.

ADDRESS SURVEYS

Of course, if you don’t provide your mailing addess, I can’t send you your reward. Duh.  So it will be your job to watch for the Kickstarter address survey that will go out when the rewards are ready to ship. I’ll also send an update when we get to this milestone. It’s not practical for me to stockpile rewards forever. If you don’t complete your survey within six months, I can’t promise that I'll still be able to provide you with your reward.

SHIPPING

Free shipping in USA. If you live in the United States, there’s no additional charge to deliver your reward to your door.

International shipping. We apply the amount we’ve budgeted for U.S. postage to international orders, so international sponsors only need to pay the extra amount beyond what a U.S. order costs. Kickstarter will apply that cost when you make your pledge.

In some countries, customs duties may be applied to print shipments. I have no way of predicting if they’ll apply to your shipment. Customs inspections are all very arbitrary and willy-nilly. Most shipments slide through without any extra duties, but a few sponsors may find that a customs fee has been slapped on. I can’t predict it or avoid it.

Pay attention. If you are an international sponsor and receive a tracking number when we ship, track your package daily to make sure it doesn’t get hung up in the system and returned to me. Don’t just assume it will show up at your door. Shipments have a way of getting stalled when they are nearly at your house, and monitoring the status of the tracking number allows you to intervene promptly—before the authorities send the package back.

Who’s the artist? The Follow Your Passion prints are the work of Don Moyer. I’m a retired graphic designer. I draw in my sketchbook each day in an effort to make myself laugh. When a sketch seems like it might make a good project, I use Kickstarter to find supporters for a production run. You may have seen my Calamityware, letterpress prints, designs on silk, or other Kickstarter projects. This is my 41st Kickstarter project.

You can see Don’s daily sketches, doodles, experiments, and mistakes on display on Flickr.

Updates and progress reports. Sponsors of this project will receive periodic updates through Kickstarter as the project unfolds but not so often that you think I’m a pest.

Questions? Send me your questions and if I know the answer, I’ll add the Q and A to the FAQ section of this page.

Leftovers from my previous Kickstarter projects are available while supplies last at www.calamityware.com. Not only is this a good place to find some unusual gifts, but it is the only place you’ll find the world’s greatest shower curtain.

Risks and challenges

I think this is a low-risk project. The design is done. Proofing is done. Printing should be uneventful. When the printing is done, I need to sit down and sign the prints and pack them for shipment. I’ve done all this before on previous Kickstarter projects, so I don’t expect any surprises. It’s just drudgery and coffee breaks.
I assure you, you’ll get updates along the way so you know exactly what’s going on.
