BADbandana 4 celebrates the beguiling symmetries of traditional bandanas with the added thrill of demonic worms from outer space.
Why? Of course, it is absurd to act on every creative impulse that comes along. But some notions are too powerful to ignore. While dawdling in my sketchbook one day, I found myself drawing worms wearing space helmets. Perhaps I was under the insidious influence of a fiendish alien intelligence, but once the idea of spaceworms appeared, I just had to make another BADbandana.
You having nothing quite like it. Like the previous BADbandanas, I’m going to reproduce this drawing as a 21-inch square bandana. With white creatures on a malevolent purple background, these bandanas will be 100 percent cotton printed right here in the good-old USA. (Dyed—not that stiff, obnoxious silkscreening we all hate.)
What do you get? More than 100 wriggling spaceworms combined in a serenely symmetrical composition that is an homage to the classic bandanas of the past.
BONUS! You’ll also receive a copy of Spaceworm Wisdom—a collection of wormy insights gained from gallivanting around the universe.
Packed in sets of three so you’ll have spares for gift giving. Bandanas have so many uses in fashion, personal hygiene, and pet decoration. No one is going to want just one. So I’m offering reward levels of BADbandanas in packs of three.
BADbandanas make superb gifts. Even if you aren’t a big fan of bandanas, you may want to get a bunch to share. Great gifts for friends, family, neighbors who are wormologists, or co-workers who are from outer space.
Do you need a reminder of how you can use your BADbandanas?
Lightning fast. If there are no calamities, you should have your spaceworm BADbandanas by the end of May, 2016. Sponsors of this project will receive periodic updates through Kickstarter as the project unfolds. You can also receive a trickle of news about all my silly projects by liking the Calamityware Facebook page.
International shipping. BADbandanas can ship anywhere in the world. Orders outside the U.S. have a postage charge that varies depending on where the package is going.
Read this if you are outside the U.S. In some countries, customs duties may be applied to shipments. I have no way of predicting if they’ll apply to your shipment. Customs inspections are very arbitrary and willy-nilly. Most packages sail through without any duty, but some are selected by chance and the recipient gets hit with a duty fee. So if you can’t tolerate the risk that your shipment might get selected for extra costs, you should probably not support this project. Or arrange to have your reward shipped to a friend in the U.S. who can bring you your spaceworms in their luggage next trip.
We’ll be using the U.S. Postal Service for these shipments because that seems to minimize the number of packages that get hit with customs fees, and there are no extra broker fees added.
If you are an international sponsor and receive a tracking number when we ship, track your package daily to make sure it doesn’t get hung up in the system and returned to us. Don’t just assume it will show up. Shipments have a way of getting stalled, and monitoring the status of the tracking number allows you to intervene promptly.
BADbandana 4 is the fourth in a series. Did you miss BADbandana 1 (Angry Paisleys), BADbandana 2 (Pixels on a Rampage) or BADbandana 3 (Spirited Bones)? You can fill gaps in your bandana collection at Calamityware.com. That’s also where you’ll find other beautiful, utilitarian, and funny products.

Risks and challenges
The basic techniques of making bandanas are centuries old. But even this simple and mature technology can probably still go wrong in surprising ways. This is my fourth bandana project, so experience ought to be a help. I’ll do all I can to anticipate problems and vanquish threats.
Whatever happens, I promise to keep you informed and to get my sponsors whimsical bandanas as soon as possible after the project closes. I feel confident you’ll be wearing BADbandana 4 by the end of May.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
