Hi everybody! Before getting into updates, as I mentioned before, we sent out System Shock 1 and 2 keys to folks that backed the qualifying tiers. If you didn’t get your keys, please send us a message. 

Project Update 

The biggest news is that we’ve officially started Vertical Slice and will have some awesome stuff to show in the coming months. The purpose of VS (vertical slice) is mainly to answer questions. Often times on a game project, devs don’t actually know how long something will take to create. VS is a phase where a slice of the game is created with a few goals in mind: 

  • How long will it take to create content? 
  • What should the final visuals look like? 
  • How should final gameplay feel? 

Basically, VS lets us prove out our pipelines and narrow down how the game should and shouldn’t play. By the end of VS, we’ll have a better understanding of what we can achieve with the time/budget we have, and have a more accurate plan moving forward to create a quality game. 

Q&A

Every month, we’ll compile some questions we’ve been seeing in the community and answer them as best as we can here. 

Q: Can I upgrade my backer level? 

A: Yup, once we have backerkit wired up and deployed. 

Q: Will you be adding paypal funding? 

A: This should be supported through backerkit. 

Q: What will you be releasing System Shock on? 

A: Our goal is to launch on PC/Mac/Linux/XboxOne/PS4 by Q2 of 2018. Not sure if it will be a simultaneous launch, but we’ll do our best.

      Can verify that the HB resender is super useful. Got my redemption codes in the desired format and was glad to have found the answer in the comments here. Kudos to @Kristopher Lemberg for the heads-up; I definitely recommend following up via e-mail with a link to the key resender tool in case others were as confused as I initially was!

      Thanks for the advice! I never received an email about the System Shock keys but found them with the Humble key re-sender.

      You guys may want to re-check the email address you're checking is the same one that was set in your kickstarter account at the time the campaign ended, and that your pledge level did include the classic titles -- so at least the $50 level.

      @Strako I believe the demo was more akin to a proof-of-concept. Vertical slice is something feature-ready with all the game mechanics in place. It's like a feature-rich 'slice' from the full game, thus the name.

      Do you think it'd be practical to add support for secondary input devices like TrackIR or the Tobii EyeX? It feels like you're making the kind of game that would really benefit from the ability to quickly glance over your shoulder, I know I wanted to do that in the original system shock games. Having a view angle that's independent of your character's body is not only really immersive but would also be valuable if you also plan to support VR headsets on PC or console.

      I don't know if anyone else feels the same way but for me the lack of TrackIR support was easily the biggest disappointment about Alien Isolation, its a game screaming out for looking over your shoulder while trying to weld shut a door but no...

      Just for reference, for those that didn't receive keys for the original Shock games, the mail came from contact@humblebundle.com, titled: "Your System Shock Kickstarter Pack order is ready", two weeks ago aprox.

      Space Rogue getting a release gets a definite squee from me. I spent countless hours playing it in my youth, particularly the arcade machine that you could play ingame with the bug hunting.

      Here's to hoping Tangled Tales might get a release!
