Camino De Santiago Route Map Playing Cards
Creating a custom deck of playing cards featuring the Camino Frances route maps and information to raise money for trail improvements.
I am creating a custom deck of playing cards featuring the Camino De Santiago (Frances route) way maps that include cities, distances, elevation profiles, and basic amenities. This deck splits the trip up into 32 stages starting in St. Jean Pied De Port, France, all the way to Santiago De Compostela, as well as 4 stages from Santiago to Finisterre (on the coast). The cards also feature other helpful pieces of information: suggested packing lists, time zone conversion table, travel tips, info on camino etiquette, and history. This is a functional 52-card casino-quality deck (plus 2 joker cards), but also serves as an ultra-lightweight, pocket-sized guidebook. Great for helping you navigate the trail as well as providing an opportunity for fun, social games with new friends met along the way.
I just recently finished walking my first camino this spring, and it was such an amazing and profound experience. I had some idea of what I was getting myself into before hand, but could never have imagined the lasting effects it would have on me. I can truly say it was both the hardest and best thing I have ever done in my life to this point. As I walked along the camino, I knew I wanted to find a way to somehow give back to future pilgrims and all the people that helped me along the trip.
I am creating and offering this deck in an effort to raise money for trail improvements (updated way marking and signage in some areas) and donations to hostels and albergues that were so helpful in accommodating me along the way. If you have ever walked the Camino or are thinking about it please donate money to my cause. This money will really help future pilgrims and those who graciously donate their time to help pilgrims complete the journey.
For those who do not know what the Camino De Santiago is, it is a series of hiking trails for pilgrims that converge on Santiago De Compostela, in NW Spain. There are many different routes to Santiago starting all over Europe, with the most popular being the Camino Frances way, which starts in the Pyrenees mountains in Southern France and goes 500 miles (800km) west across Northern Spain. This is a very spiritual and life-changing journey for many who attempt it.
Again, please find it within yourself to donate to this cause. If I go above my initial production goal, the extra money will be put to good use making much-needed improvements on the Camino. I will also use a portion of the proceeds to begin research and design on my next map deck of cards: the Pacific Crest Trail. Buen Camino!
Risks and challenges
I don't anticipate any risks or challenges to completing this project. The design has already been created and am just awaiting funding to move forward with finalization, production costs, packaging, and shipping.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
