Boards! Websites! Oh My!

Posted by Next Thing Co. (Creator)

Hi OTTO Backers & Friends!

Lots of news from the three of us here at Next Thing Co!

Over the last two months, with the help of our friends Jin and Ian at DangerousPrototypes, we have been hard at work lining up and trying out our electronics manufacturers and part suppliers in Shenzhen. Our first volume run of boards is on its way to us as we speak! We can’t wait for them to get here!

The rotary encoder and shutter button boards you saw sneak peeks of last update have since been prototyped, assembled, tested, revised, rinsed, repeated, optimized, and finally cranked out en masse!

OTTO’s main circuit boards are currently in process and will undergo testing in the next several days. Our custom cable interconnects are being made, and case design is firming up so we can take the big step into buying our tooling. Over all, LOTS of progress, and lots more to come.

We're also super excited to be launching our new website soon! The new site will host the OTTO community, and be the place we can properly blog and share all the things we’re working on!

Stay tuned for more updates!

@ChrisR, the OTTO board is shown below all that, as a CAD layout, and uses the Pi Compute Module. The white Pi "shield" you're talking about is BOB -- our battery on board add-on for RPi model A and B boards.

Can you explain why you show a picture of the Otto board on top of a Raspberry Pi model B in this update? In your main description you say that Otto is based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module. What is it based on? Thanks
