Which battle UI do you prefer?

Last update of the day, I promise!

Based on today's feedback, we've made a possible version 3 of the UI.

Besides the obvious change with the time bar, we also moved the ability name to the left & we made the ability cursor a little bigger & easier to see. Oh and we fixed an error that we had missed (Clarke's Health & Energy bars were flipped).

Here's the previous version:

Thoughts? Which do you prefer?

Version three seems to me to be the sleeker of the three = P

My vote is cast for thee version three.

Love the new screenshots! I prefer the original Battle screenshot posted on 2/28, mainly because I like large character portraits.

    3. Devon Archer on March 12, 2014

Version 3 for sure, like the double time bar to tell enemy and party apart.

    4. Samuel Rainville on March 11, 2014

the third one is the best. Having an option to chose chose the UI could be great too.

I like version 3 better than 2. Splitting the time bar is a good idea.

    7. Lorenzo Gaetani on March 10, 2014

i'm fine with them both, they don't see much difference, maybe version 3 is little nicer, but are both good

    8. Brian Mathews on March 10, 2014

I like the first one. I think both the battle bar and the ability bar are easier to read that way. Your eyes move much more easily to the ability name when it's right next to what you're looking at, and the timetable is much more easy to read when the enemies are on the other side. It just seems like the layout's a little smoother on the eyes.

I shall add my voice to the chorus praising version 3! I think it's a solid improvement.

I'm late to the party, but I'm also going to chime in on V3. It's the extra information from the turn order bar that really does it, I think. The side effect of putting the move name in the center of the screen is also rather visually pleasing.

      Version 3, by far.

I like V3 also! I think the ability tab, "Bash" in this case, definitely works better on the left, that way you can just eyeball that corner for all of that info. As far as the turn icons go, I like the ability to briefly quickly distinguish enemy vs. party turns. If you wanted to keep it on one line, you could just have the colored bar to the right of each icon reflect that one particular characters affiliation. That is to say, there could be a singular colored bar there, but it would be red beside enemy portraits and and blue beside party portraits. I don't mind the two being separated as in V3 though...I think either would be fine!

Yep V3 is better than the V2.

Yea, v3 is fantastic - having the 'next turn' divided for allies and enemies is fantastic!

      V3 looks nice.

    18. JusticeBolt on March 8, 2014

      V3 is the best.

      Version 3 for sure.

Version 3 is awesome. Love how the enemies and heroes are separate on the turn bar. Much easier to tell the difference at a glance.

    22. Garrett Ward on March 7, 2014

I prefer the most recent shot (V3 i believe). It just looks cleaner and more organized.

    23. Natalie Graves on March 7, 2014

I definitely like version 2 much better

    24. FinalCataclsym on March 7, 2014

I'm liking Version 3 overall. Especially if the enemy or allies that are affected are shown on the turn bar. For instance, if you know a character can kill an enemy with a skill on this turn before your allies get turns, but you only need to kill a specific one, show something like a small green arrow or star or what have you to denote the single target on the time bar. At least, that's what I think would look good and feel most functional.

I like all the changes for version 3. As some mentioned previously, saving some space by having the turn paths overlap a bit might be even better.

My vote is for #3. The separate party/enemy tracks is much easier to follow.

Oh, huh. I'm sure I don't need to voice support for v3 at this point; but where are you planning to render status effects? Just floating in the space to the right of the character portraits? With how key I expect/hope they're going to be, it seems a little unintegrated.

On another note, being reminded of how very Chrono Trigger the battles are set up, I hope you'll handle positioning a bit better than it did? Techs that hit a specific area were neat, but it was frustrating how arbitrary they ended up feeling because of how allies and enemies moved. Black Sigil's free run wasn't implemented perfectly, and I'm not sure I'd suggest that, but at least it was an improvement.

    36. Michael Vezina on March 7, 2014

I favour version 3, but Ekster makes a valid point with the idea of one turn bar with highlighted colours for teams red/blue. Also a hybrid is possible with teammates offset left only a little, and enemies offset right only a little. With colors.

The newest time bar is very reminiscent of Grandia 2. This is a very good thing.

    39. Zeal of Antiquity on March 7, 2014

Holy crap definitely version 3!!!!! I still think Alyssa's portrait could be tuned a bit but I love the new turn bar

    40. GG Crew on March 7, 2014

I also vote for the newer version, for the same reasons explained by Corey Schwanz.
(I had identical thoughts, but explained it better than I could have.)

    41. Mike Rentas on March 7, 2014

Love the new one, huge improvement!

    42. Jimmy Durborow on March 7, 2014

The version 3 UI looks the best in my opinion. Normally I'm a fan of as little clutter as possible, but this one really organizes it in a way that is easy to follow.
