A labor of LOVE and a long time in the Making
It's the dream of all artists to get their work out in front of an audience. The hope is that their work will connect with others and a bond will be created between the artist, the work, and the audience. We are hoping this will be the case when you hear our first CD release of original music. This 10 song CD is called I Know Who I Am.
Fans of the band have been wondering when this CD would be finally finished and released. It has been a long time in the making, and we love what we've done in the studio. We've attempted to capture the energy that our live shows are famous for on this studio project. We believe that you'll agree with us when we say, "Hell yes we have!"
Our music is aimed at people who love to dance. It's an infectious mixture of Blues, R&B and Soul grooves, that is designed to get butts off of chairs and feet on the dance floor. As a dancer and member of the west coast swing dance community, I have specifically geared our music towards dancers. As a result, we have built a solid base of dancers especially west coast swing dancers, who come out in droves to dance to our music. Nothing pleases me more than seeing dancers pack the dance floor during our live shows.
I Know Who I Am, features big Greg Babich ( Lead/Slide Guitar) who can play the guitar like nobody's business. Clay Brown on Sax/Vocals adds a sweet layer to our sound that makes our sound sizzle (like food in the frying pan baby). AmoChip Dabney (Keyboard/Sax/Vocals) is a Grammy winning multi-instrumentalist, whose creativity helped to make this project soar. Chazmo Martin (Drums) provided the ideal "pocket" for the band to lay down its groove. His bad jokes on the other hand.....Jeff Masterson (Bass Guitar/Vocals) laid back, spot on playing, helps give this CD its soulful and tight sound. He also wrote two of the songs on this CD. Lastly, there's me Zo Carroll (lead vocals) who's trying to keep up with my talented band mates. I also wrote 8 of the tunes on this project.
It takes more than just the band to pull off this project. We needed a recording studio to work in and pay for. We're recording at Red Onion Recording with Engineer Scott Miller who is also our Producer. We've completed recording about 90% of this project and have been able to secure funding from friends to cover some of our expenses. Scott has been extremely generous in donating free time to us Part of the money that we raise with this project, will go towards paying for the additional studio time that we need, to complete our CD.
Even when you're doing a CD on your own (without major label support), it's an expensive undertaking. Some of the costs include recording, mixing, mastering and promotions. I want to thank you in advance, because your funds will help us with these costs.
I have to give a big shout out to Stacey Halper who jumped on board this project, and filmed the video you just watched. Boy she did one helluv a great job. Don't you agree? She enlisted the help of her friend and Editor, Matthew Manus who made our video come to life. Man is this dude good or what? Thanks again Stacey and Matthew. Your great work has been essential in getting our Kickstarter project off the ground and running.
So there you have it. We're excited as hell and looking forward to your participation in this project. If you're a fan of original music and would love to say you helped Zo and The Soul Breakers release their first CD, please pledge your financial support. I'm really counting on my friends and fellow west coast swing dance fanatics to help us out. This is a labor of love that we are looking forward to sharing with the world. Later,
Risks and challenges
This is a work that is pretty much recorded. We still have to lay down some background vocal tracks and maybe an instrumental track here and there. As I said before, we still need to pay for mastering and manufacturing before we have a physical CD in hand (or a download). I don't anticipate any unique challenges after this CD is successfully funded however. If we run into any problems, I will definitely keep you guys informed. We have a great team working on this project so I'm confident that it'll be completed and everyone will be happy with the results.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
