About this project
What does "classical music" mean to you? After 9 years together and 4 years of touring all over the world, we in the Dover Quartet have witnessed something special: classical music is thriving. But in many parts of the country, and the 21st century world in general, the perception is often that "classical music" is stuffy; arrogant; or (perhaps the worst of all...) BORING!
Six months ago we began an enormous undertaking- to show the world what the life of a classical musician is really like, with a full-length documentary. We want to show the world the people behind the performers, and the passionate, vibrant, and diverse community that exists behind the scenes. We've teamed up with the amazing director Bruce Broder to help bring this vision to life. Bruce's award-winning documentary Chops (https://tribecafilm.com/filmguide/archive/512d05801c7d76e046002788-chops) premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and has received much critical acclaim. We are so excited to have the opportunity to work with him!
A good portion of the funding for the filming has already been secured through private backers and from our own bank accounts! But as you can imagine, this is a very expensive process and we need the help of people like you to take this project through post-production and all the way to major film festivals!
If you're also passionate about music and you want the world to see how special this music really is, please consider donating to the documentary project on our Kickstarter page! Any little bit helps, and you can get perks like Dover Quartet coffee mugs, CDs, downloads, and even lessons with the quartet members!
Risks and challenges
We Dover Quartet members share our passion for chamber music with people we meet all over the world. This is why we have already been enthusiastically given permission to film the documentary all over the U.S., in Canada, and in Austria, and will be doing so in even more places to come! Securing funding for the last few shoots and interviews, and for post-production costs, is our last step--and that's where you come in! We have 100% faith that along with our fantastic, fun and experienced director Bruce Broder and our talented and insightful cameraman Dan Cowen we will achieve our goal in producing a new, exciting and emotional journey into the world of classical music.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
