This story outlines the trajectory of a "national controversy".... from a single Facebook post on a New Trier Parent website to an Op Ed in the Wall Street Journal and coverage on CNN. How did this local non-issue become a national story? Support this project to discover the impact of the web of national connections and dark money on YOUR LOCAL politics and education. Coming soon to your community... if it's not already there!
New Trier's 2017 Seminar Day, "Understanding Today's Struggle for Racial Civil Rights", has generated significant statewide controversy, some national controversy... and virtually no controversy within New Trier Township. What gives? Who are these forces so opposed to this single day of educational programming? Are they really upset about Seminar Day... or could this be about something else entirely?
Local filmmaker Paul Traynor inexplicably found himself IN the controversy surrounding Seminar Day 2017. See how his search for answers led to being called out by a hate group, named in one of a dozen Freedom of Information Act requests made by friends, neighbors, and Arlington Heights Tea Partiers, and to coming face-to-face with an extremely energetic and agitated opponent-- on LIVE tv!
NEW TRIER: Tip of the Spear is a documentary short feature (less than 30 minutes) that attempts to track the alleged controversy step-by-step, name the players, gather the evidence and see whether this is simply a disagreement about one day of school programming... or something much, much bigger. Is a shadowy host of outside forces-- and a few local ones-- pushing an entirely different agenda... and why is New Trier at the Tip of the Spear?!

Risks and challenges
Paul Traynor is a New Trier parent from Wilmette with 5 children. Traynor runs his own production and communications company, Hay Moon Media-- and would love nothing more than to dedicate Hay Moon to telling this important story before the New Trier Township elections on April 4th. To that end, he needs to clear his schedule, harness his resolve, pass up actual paying gigs, and dedicate (more) long hours and effort to tell this story. To do so may involve significant risk, and will expose Paul to potential enemies with very deep-pockets and extensive networks. This is not paranoia. The threat is real. The time-crunch is real. And the need for ALL of us to know the full story is very real. $15k will be enough to put together the essential basics of this story and to share it publicly-- but the professional costs will be much higher. If you are concerned about the way things are going in this country today, stand up and let your voice be heard. And your money spent!! Please help us crack $25k so we can do this RIGHT! Every dollar counts-- and if you're not from New Trier Township, please know that this story affects YOU, TOO!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
