Books Are Shipping

Hello all,

I'll be honest: the last month has been harrowing, to say the least. But, thankfully, the short version of that story ends with "...and everything worked out alright." I'll probably record an RPPR GDW about the shipping struggles soon, but let's keep it to essentials in this update.

Due to delays, books arrived both in the US and UK late last week. I've paid the shipping, labor, and packaging costs in full. Packaging of the individual shipments has begun.

Books and dice should starting hitting the post sometime late this week. So when does that mean you'll be getting the book?

I have no idea. Any guess I could make would be so uninformed as to be a lie. There are over 50 different national postal services involved in international shipping alone, and the US postal service isn't exactly smelling like roses. There are just too many variables.

I can say with some degree of confidence that (excluding stretch goals) the Kickstarter is delivering on time, and books should arrive early for the majority of backers (excluding the inevitable damages and postal screw ups some of you are bound to experience; if that happens, message me and we'll work it out). I recognize that's a lot of caveats for what is very positive announcement indeed, but since this project entered the shipping stages, it has done nothing if not reinforce the value of caution and skepticism.

So hold yer casualties, folks. The books are literally on the way.

Regarding Sales

Pre-order customers and Kickstarter backers might get rightfully irked if some rando got a copy before them. However, the reality is that, if I opened the book up for sale on IPR today, quirks in the postal system would make it possible for some Johnny-Come-Lately to beat loyal KS backers to the punch. I don't want that to happen.

I value the contributions of those that have supported me early in this project more than words can express. I won't be opening the book up for general sales until it seems to me as if the overwhelming majority of current customers have their books and can start playing. If all goes well with shipping, the core book should be up on IPR in the next few weeks.

Other Progress

School definitely slowed things down, but the shipping struggles stopped us dead in our tracks. Over the last couple of months, I went from thinking I'd have slightly less money than anticipated to fund stretch goals, to thinking I'd have no money for stretch goals, to thinking I'd be deep in debt, to thinking I'd be full-blown bankrupt, before going back to having more than enough money for stretch goals. It's been a roller-coaster and, as you may be aware, it's really hard to type anything on one of those.

As I mentioned, the full story is far too long for a Kickstarter update: I'll cover everything in a podcast soon. For now, suffice to say that my newfound financial peace of mind has been an enormous relief for me, and I'm hoping it will get us back on track fulfilling additional rewards.

In Conclusion

Expect a book on your doorstep...soonish? That's the best I can say. As always, thanks for all your support. Hit me up in the comments or shoot me a DM if you have a question.

Have a great Halloween,
Caleb

@Cat - I think that depends on the postal service used for your partiuclar country/state

Hello, I have received my hardcover corebook just today. I would like to confirm if the remainder of the $60 reward which are the dice and audiobook were shipped seperately.

The book quality is very impressive and definitely worth the wait. Keep it up :)

Hi, quick question, apparently people have already begun receiving their books in the post, but I've yet to see mine? Is there a way to track one's order? I'm scared something might've happened to it.

I can't wait for the book to arrive, I'll be irrationally checking the mail for however long it takes to arrive. One of my friends has already asked to borrow it because he wants to read up on the Crash after our playtest games, too.

I appreciate the update and am really glad to know that your financials are in better shape at this point. You've been willing to and have put a lot on the line for this game and this project and I'm glad that some of the economic stress has decreased for you.

I may be repeating what a lot of people have already said in this update and in others, but thank you for your hard work and dedication to this project and to your backers. You have explained every step along the way and have been so forthcoming on new information. There is one Kickstarter RPG project I've been waiting on now since 2014 (with no delivery in near time), so the progress and drive of you on Red Markets has been like thousands of breaths of fresh air. Thank you again, glad to hear that finances are getting better, ignore the haters, and keep doing what you do!

Caleb, your communication and professionalism have been on point through out this process, and that doesn't even begin to cover the awesomeness that is the game. There are established games companies who have had worse communications than you in these processes.

Know that I am already putting aside money for party fowl, and I hope desperately to see future RPG projects from you as wel, cause you are in my opinion, one of the most talented people working in the industry right now.

I have to say again what others have said. I can't imangine that anything goes as smoothly as we hope, however you have been a lot more clear and regular with the communication/responses than some of the other kickstarters I have backed. THis alone makes it worth the wait so that you are happy / conftable with it.

Sorry its been a tough ride for you, but I have nothing but praise for your handling and communication of the Kickstarter. Its a damn good game too.

Thank you for all your hard work and perseverance. I'm sorry it's been such a shitstorm for you personally, but I hope that the coming tweets of book arrivals, AP reports, and fan-made content will help assuage some of that. Bloody good work!

Awesome, getting so close to the finish line! And Dan Williamson is right, you should be proud of the whole course of the Kickstarter, too.

Excited to see the final project, impressed all to hell with your project management so far (My lady and I both work in print and fulfillment so the fact you've pulled this together so well across so many borders is amazing). Glad to see that you have survived and may even prosper.

"Soonish" is awesome, Caleb. Thanks for the update!

I continue to consider this the gold standard for Kickstarters. Everyone who wants to do a kickstarter should listen to all of the Kickstarter related GDWs and read all of these updates for examples of HOW THIS IS DONE. (I'm looking at you Modiphius.)

It’s great to hear that you are more financially at peace.

The one reason I was hoping to score a hard copy from IPR was the chance to get your autograph at Metatopia.

Communications have been stellar for this project. Kudos to Caleb.

I'm super excited to get the book and also very happy to read that you are doing okay financially after this. Thank you for all your hard work so far and for your continued work on the backer rewards.

It's been a crazy ride, but one I'm glad you took.
